F1 seriously needs a rule to punish drivers who are responsible for red flags. Extremely unfair for Verstappen and the rest behind having to start behind someone who ruins it for everyone.

Great grid, but always bittersweet when we cannot get to see the maximum performance from all.
That's where great banker laps pay off. I think it's still fair. Red flag early Q3.. You still have one chance efter that.. Red flag late Q3... Did you put in a good banker?
That still doesn't make it right for the fans who paid to see a full qualifying session.
they did... minus 1 minute. it was max's fault that he screwed up his first lap to begin with.

This has nothing to do with max. It’s not 1 minute. It’s a full second round of flyers as the clock counts off to zero. The most climactic part of the qualy session.

Niels Wittich took ages to throw that red flag, almost as if they did not want the qualifying to restart.

Exactly. He just wants to prove that he is fastest. Actually that didn't work out. Perez just did an excellent job... . Pole

Perez cementing his position again as the best Redbull driver 2023 so far.
Sometimes I wonder if I am watching the same season as some of the commenters here are.

I agree with you, there should be some solution to make sure every driver gets fair qualy lap and people who especially come to track by paying are loosing lot of action because of such red flags ruining Qualifying, it was Max fault he made a mistake but still he had time to do a second lap and challenge for the pole if the track was clear, hopefully in future they will add a few minutes maybe 5 minute countdown if such situations come into effect and everyone gets to do a final qualy lap. Lets not blame Charles for the incident he was trying as hard as Max was trying to set a laptime after bad first Q3 lap and mistakes happen when drivers push to maximum efforts especially with the certain cars which don't drive like they drive on rails. Also change of wind directions affected both Max and Charles i guess in same section of the lap.

Max definitely has at least half a second advantage over Perez, he is just not pushing hard this year as there are no real challengers for the Championship, my prediction would be that Max will win championship by Monza and Redbull constructors before summer break.

There is a saying in some place, which goes like, if God is too kind then donkey would be the best fighter. Problem is, he is still trailing despite all the luck. In almost every season, champion of the season endures difficulties through the season to prevail and win, like in 2021 for instance.

The way I look at this.. if and only if this turns out like 2016, Perez similar to Rosberg situation. The team wants Max to win and if for some bizarre situation there is more bad luck on Max's way and Perez keeps accumulating the points and wins, then this can be one in a life time opportunity to win the championship.
I think Perez will take it with both hands and retire after the win. We don't know what is written in Perez's destiny but if it has to happen it will happen.
Does Perez have the mental strength and guts to fight this out on track (he has to drive his skin out of that RBR in all circumstances) or will RBR be fair to both of them or whether Liberty wants a show for viewership? with so many moving variables and how he should be thankful to RBR for that seat when we had none, there is no F1 pundit will will like to put more than 1% chance to Perez winning this year championship.
Shame we have such a big gap between the top 2 or 3 teams. The true F1 fans will move away if not already.

There is something so satisfying about Mercs being top in practice and now getting smashed by half the grid. The tirade from 14-21 of them being slow and others being "very quick" when they were well clear of the others and just playing games with the fans biting them in the @rse is just satisfying AF.

Didn't Toto once say that "Williams are a threat?" when the whole world knew they were struggling for money, Toto got their lead driver in the 11th hour and had his own driver put in that team. As a long time fan of the old racing team, seeing Williams even if just for a weekend actually beat their star driver in one session on merit is just gold!
"Sebastian there's very, you're a member of a very select few.. Stewart, Lauda, Piquet, Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Fangio.. VETTEL!"

Hamilton starting to look a bit silly.

Leclerc looking like nothing but hype.

Quite an interesting race ahead. Although I think it will be determined by flags rather than pace per se.
Yes. it is. Ferrari Cann't win with these two young guns. either of the one making mistake. not good.

I like how it is and how it happens. On the way is now you can’t do any mistakes or stay on garage and do one run. Max did a mistake on first run and Lecrec second one. They know red flag can happen any moment so the ones don’t do a mistake are rewarded but all have driven to the max of teir possibilities
