I've made my own F1 car too (Warning pictures!)

Hi,

First time poster, long time lurker. Avid F1 fan, probably not missed a race in 10-12 years. I've drawn and made a few efforts in MS paint of my own car, but downloaded google sketchup and made a proper effort.

I thought I'd make my own thread to not steal the other guy's thread who made his (very good) car.

Here it is:





Brawn'esque end plates, with red bull'ish flaps

Underside of front wing to show the strakes

A (very tall) drivers view

This is the splitter, barge board and pod vane

I put a little winglet under the mirror on the pod vane to fill in its void in the air




Floor shot with openings for the uppermost deck of the diffuser



It doesn't exactly fit the regualtions, but near enough.

All feedback more than welcome.
If someone can tidy it up and CFD it, I'm more than happy to email the model to them.

Agreed,
I should have said, if anyone wants to finish it off and CFD it etc...
I'm not very good at drawing curves, hence the angularity.

Looks good.. I think it can be imported into a CAD program and be made "Solid"..the laminar surfaces that is.. Should be easy to fillet too.

i've been thinking, could you possibly make a 4 plane rear wing at that 50 mm spot kind of like McLaren's but still have that BMW/Force India extra wing above it?

Its a bit rough, but pretty much done.

I've made a few modiciations and changed the pictures above acordingly.

The car is very close chasis wise to what I want. I modified the rear difuser to a more toyota/brawn type. Also made shark fin longer and more curved. Will post when more refined front wing comes on.

did some cleaning up the nosejob a bit. Will keep going at it and maybe make it wider.

I used to use a 3D modeling animation program in the 90's called Topaz, which exists in the world of Windows now, but then it fit on 4 1.44 diskettes, and used the VESA drivers exclusively while running under DOS, or in my case, a DOS Window of my OS/2 workstation.

I worked IT for Canadian payroll company back then and decided to make a flying logo for the new piece of software we were writing. Soon I had made good use of the program, which was actually quite powerful, and had done a pretty good piece of work, with a cascading and rotating set of tiles across the different colors of the spectrum. I don't want to toot my own horn, but it turned out really good, and the company used it in their sales demos.

The reason I just went "honk honk" is that these car posts have made me want to get fired up again, and I have snagged Sketchup for my pooter. I don't think I am going to do an F1 car, but I have some solid plastic inventions that need to be prototyped, and there is no reason I can't make the model.

However, upon doing a cursory search on the model search engine in sketchup for Ferrari, I found this, and promise, anything I upload or show will be _sightly_ better.
