Williams FW45

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Swiftly done. They have copied this feature from alpine/amr

Williams is another team to sport the tube fin design on their front caliper, albeit only present on the front and rear of the caliper, with horizontal fins present in the central section.

Here you can see the new profile on the top element of the front wing, now it curves down towards the middle of the car. Bottom picture is from Saudi for comparison, see just how much bigger the top element was there.

This is similar to AMR. I think teams use it to support the floor.

With the season re-starting, a reminder for everyone that the car threads are moderated more strictly than other threads, with the idea that car threads should focus on the hardware and interpretation of how it works. And on the specific car in each car thread, please. We like our car threads shorter, focused and fact dense.

If a post is about the competition side of F1, be it faster/slower than, lap times or driver behavior, please, post it in the team threads instead (or even in the race thread!). Team threads are moderated very loosely, go wild in there. Future car parts, also in team threads, please, as they are by definition speculation, at least without an insider source.

Posts made in the car threads that are not focusing on the hardware are subject to be moved to other threads or, most likely, removed (as there are too many).

The side pods are very rectangular in plan view.

Does make one wonder what the aero team and their capability is like in Williams, for last 2 years they have had the highest aero time allowed and they still come up with a basic design.
Keep thinking the car is close to midfield but this shows how much the driver are overachieving with a dog of a car.

People online are overreacting to this picture a bit and saying it looks like its in a different class to the RB19 and other floors. The lighting, angle and shade of carbon is making it look a lot less simple. Now that people have seen the Red Bull floor in Monaco and see the features like the more sculpted roof and several diffuser kicks, they assume that anything not looking like that is just bad. This is more of a typical Venturi floor, but it shouldn't just be assumed that because its simple it is not providing performance. Even Ferrari has a more conventional floor. In actual fact, there is not that many areas that can cause difference in the floors from a visual point of view when you break it down. There is just really the boat shape, the diffuser kick and the floor edge.
