Alonso had floor damage, but he was heading for a top 3 spot until he made a mistake at turn10, that ruined his S3 time. If he had a clean S3 he would have been somewhere between 2nd and 4th
Probably 2nd or 3rd if you ask me.

You always have several bad race in a year.
That’s why VER will not win them all.

So today was bad, bad luck with damage, but without that top3 was clearly possible and podium tomorrow

Now let’s see what is possible with clever strategy, car fixed and maybe rain.

Obviously SAI and HAM will be the strongest competitors in this top 10 ( VER is on another world anyway)

Apart from three amazing races he seems to have terrible luck in Spain, 2007 Massa pushes him off the track into the gravel turn 1, 2011 goes p4 to p1 from the start but the shitty ferrari has no pace, 2012 again goes p2 to p1 but once again it has no pace, 2017 qualifies p7 in mchonda but then gets pushed off the track turn 2 again, 2022 gets stuck in q1 due to traffic, 2023 floor gets damaged.

Anyways Pérez Russell and Leclerc all fell on Q2 and Q1 so it could be even worse. Lance finally has managed to outqualify albeit with a damaged car

It's easier to make a mistake with a damaged car, we don't know how it has affected the balance. Team will tell us later

A podium is still on the cards for Alonso, especially with a bit of rain/mixed conditions!

Alonso might want a say, his floor will get fixed, the car was very well balanced friday.

Sainz has the advantage that in theory he can do the first stint freely.

That's for sure.
I am not arguing that.

Now we can only wonder how close to VER would have been, without the floor damage.

The car is so dominant it should be a RB 1-2 but in a way they are lucky Perez is having issues so it doesn't show the picture as it should

Interesting to see and hear the Team radio of Alonso tomorrow, when he gets in the back of Stroll.
That would be a first for this year.
To see how the team may handle the situation.
Let them race? Let him pass? or Alonso passes him with ease either way.
Let's see.

Fernando could start P8 if Gasly gets two 3 place grid penalties, he has two breaches due to impeding other cars. Lance could start P5 as well if there is at least one penalty.

I am not sure of top 3 even whit no damage, looks like others improved alot or this track is not so good for the car
He was carrying 8 tenth of damage.
According to Alonso "couple" of seconds.

RB may be a dominant car, but not all drivers are dominant in that car.
Verstappen is dominant most of the time but with Perez it really depends on the track.
Barcelona is not a good track for Perez. He was always lacking there.
I wouldn't be surprised if we had a Verstappen Alonso front row in a normal Qualifying for everyone.

I dont think there will be any drama, they and the team know what to do in case any of them is faster. Lets wait for Lap 1 first anyways.

Absolutely not. He was already 1 tenth slower after S2 compared to STR.
