Interesting to see and hear the Team radio of Alonso tomorrow, when he gets in the back of Stroll.
That would be a first for this year.
To see how the team may handle the situation.
Let them race? Let him pass? or Alonso passes him with ease either way.
Let's see.
I dont think there will be any drama, they and the team know what to do in case any of them is faster. Lets wait for Lap 1 first anyways.
Last year, most of the times we got to that situation, having the faster car behind the slower, Alpine managed to completely make a mess of the situation. Especially in the 2/3 of the championship.
For AMR that would be the first time, having the faster car running behind the slower car.
tbh, i am really curious to see how they will handle it.

Alonso had floor damage, but he was heading for a top 3 spot until he made a mistake at turn10, that ruined his S3 time. If he had a clean S3 he would have been somewhere between 2nd and 4th
Probably 2nd or 3rd if you ask me.
Absolutely not. He was already 1 tenth slower after S2 compared to STR.
Check S3 times. STR Best, ALO best, and ALO S3 in Q3. Now take his S1 and S2 from Q3 and add to them his best S3 in qualifying. And that is a bit on the conservative side, because (probably) he would have been lowering his best S3 time if he hadn't done that mistake at T10.

In car audio Alonso and his engineer agreed that a 1:12.7 and P2 was possible.

yes i know. If you do the math i mentioned above, P2 was possible.
They agreed to a 12.7 or 12.8 with the engineer telling him, a 12.7 would be P2.
And that was with floor damage.

If track temperatures goes 40+ tomorrow (just like Friday); Lance & Alonso both can be on podium.
Race pace & tire handling is AM’s strength…if both survive first lap ;podium is very much there.

Depends on DRS trains appearing or not. Aston doesn't have the best top speed so if Fernando gets stuck in one it could be difficult.

That would have been P6.

I do not see track temp being an issue tomorrow. If anything, teams might need the wet tire selection.

Yes that would have been P6 with 1.12,869, but ,051 away from 5th.. ,053 from 4th, ,077 from 3rd and ,135 from 2nd.
Since he did his best S3 in Q2, and he lowered his Best S2 for about 2 tenths (in Q3), we can add some track evolution and the possibility lowering his Best S3 time in Q3. that's why his engineer told him instantly that lap would have been 12.8 to 12.7, so he told him that P2 was a possibility. That's it.
He and his engineer had this discussion instantly in the cool down lap, i don't know why you are finding difficult to see that it was possible. As i said in my previous posts IMO it would have been P2 or P3. (With floor Damage)

that was the case for both McLaren as well, though. Both made mistakes and couldn't replicate their sector 3 times from Q2. Norris' time would have been 12.6 even without track evolution.

So yeah, it maybe was within reach because those others didn't nail their laps either, but overall, Aston didn't really have the car for P2, I'd say.

For me it is obvious that ALO must start in hard, and do a very long first stint then switching to wet if needed or finishing very fast en softer tyres

It will be a race that needs to be calm for the 2/3 and then in the last one everything will come together.

Didn't had the car for P2 "with Floor damage" you mean.. there was floor damage you know.. i don't know how much it was costing Alonso, but there was floor damage for sure.

Regarding Norris, that's true. Alonso would have needed a very magical S3 to get ahead of him. Norris was also very strong in S3. He actually had the best S3 of all, and he also messed his S3 in his final run. Norris could have been P2 with Alonso P3 or P4.
But with Alonso having floor damage. Don't forget that.

yeah, no idea how moch it cost time wise, but obviously the floor damage didn't help. So with "not a car for P2" I meant under today's circumstances (and against the competition left) in Q3.

Yes under the Q3 circumstances, i also believe Norris had a pretty good chance for P2 if he hadn't mess his S3.

At least this floor is the old one and not the new one that could possibly come in Canada (possibly), so it's not the end of the world.
