Hamilton has made a full confidence statement about the upgrade package:
https://www.gpblog.com/en/news/210682/h ... oming.html
I think we've made some really great progress with the car. Today, for us to be fighting for P2 was a big surprise. We did some great work overnight, and the car really felt so much better this morning. I just had so much more confidence in the car. These upgrades have definitely worked," Hamilton added, who finished eight-tenths behind Verstappen.

How much was the performance of the car flattered by the conditions (green track) esp with a McLaren up there ? I'm waiting till the next few qualifying events before making a judgement on the upgrade

It's the same track for everyone, and its not like teams didn't know what was going to happen with the weather.

I was speaking specifically about the qualifying pace which has been poor this year but yes tomorrow we will see if they've closed the gap to AM in race pace

The timeline which led to the incident between Russell and Hamilton :
- the lap before, Russell on a push lap, In front of Hamilton, exiting the pits. Hamilton is made aware of George pushing, as he exits the pits
- Perez causes yellow flags in front of Russell, Russell has to abort
- Russell slows down to cool tires, he's overtaken by Tsunoda who's on a prep lap
- Tsunoda and Russell have to slow down to let Verstappen through. They litterally have to park their cars down, inside exit of T12. Lewis is behind them, and is letting Saint through
- Verstappen overtakes TSU and RUS, but Russell continues to go slow to allow a gap between him and Tsunoda
- Dudley is busy checking Russell's engine modes. While Russell is allowing a gap between him and Tsunoda, he asks Dudley if there is more traffic behind. Then is the 1st time Dudley mentions Sainz. Russell continues to park it between T13 and T14.
- Meanwhile Lewis is informed no other traffic coming from behind, so he follows Saint and accelerates for T13-T14 and to start the lap
- Russell not aware Lewis is just behind Sainz and Lewis not aware Russell backed off in front of him

Russell's hunger to be number 1 is getting more extreme each race. Today was downright dangerous; the 44 car could have wemt airborne over that back tyre and into the crowd. Hope Toto doesn't let this one go unpunished...

Don’t be so dramatic, Ham was as much to blame for this a Rus, weather or not he got pst cleanly, he was going to ruin Rus lap anyway, when he needed it, while ham was safe in P4.

Ham needs to realise this isn’t bottas who he and Toto can bully into submission and not expect a response, and George needs to learn when to push and when to fight another day

The notion of safety on that quickly-evolving track in a car that isn't a Redbull doesn't even come into it.

Lewis had the chance to avoid it, but he nailed the throttle. It's his mistake.

both were starting a push lap at that point, so normally the team should have sorted that out before, of course.

Russell starting his push lap from turn 13 was pretty nuts. He was always going to be compromised in his lap. That is why Lewis was closing on him so rapidly. I think he was just desperate.

Not defending Russell here but I imagine he did this to recharge his battery as much as possible as I think he aborted his lap roughly mid-lap.

That would explain his very slow pace in Sector 3 considering there wasn't enough time for 2 more laps (prep + flying lap)
