Race pace is still down, but 3 tenths for ultimate pace and getting 2nd/3rd in pace on merit is VERY encouraging, especially with a compromised chassis design.

That was a great result but I think we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves!

Last year Mercedes again was fast here even battling Verstapen for some time but when the season progressed we didn’t get any closer to Red Bull apart from Brazil obviously where many things came into play to improve our pace!

Also the most annoying thing for me is they didn’t move to this concept early on after seeing what’s possible with the zero pods! Had they started with this spec they would have refined it by now and they would have been bringing performance upgrades by now! Now they’ll be on back foot again while Red Bull will be just refining their already quite developed concept!

On the other hand these side pods look so basic and underdeveloped, the chassis can’t be modified in-season, same goes for the rear suspension too! Which means there’s a lot of space for development for next year…

It’s kind of incredible they seem to have left Ferrari and AM in the dust so quickly. I think Hamilton can genuinely race Perez now. Verstappen is still far ahead but now it just looks like we are gonna catch him, sooner or later.

Merc said they need 5 races to see where they really are. Barcelona was just 1 race. As you know, performance between the cars ebbs and flows due to track specific features. The W13 was very good in Barcelona.

Max and Lewis tried fastest laps on the same lap and the difference was 1.3 seconds with similarly aged tyres! Mercedes with all the upgrades.

Your numbers are from lap 62. Hamilton set his lap after Verstappen... As did Russell and Perez

Such a trash post and frankly VERY embarrassing

16.3 for max and a 16.6 for Lewis is right. 3tenths. Can’t dispute that.

It will be a good one to watch how the races ahead go from Mercedes here. Great pace this weekend but be good to see the normal lap time in true race pace rather than a final shootout for fastest lap which is never very telling of true car pace.

As someone said, a good bench stone will be if they can keep on top of the pace they displayed today.

Fingers crossed for them fighting for a podium spot and one team with 2 drivers on the podium will be good to see.

I don’t know I’m confident they are out developing everybody. We need to remember that we were told months ago this concept saw a lot of improvement in the sim and the wind tunnel. They weren’t bullshitting us. There is a lot of lap time to come still imo.

I guess... the one thing to factor in is that Hamilton DID get a tow / DRS from Albon on his fastest lap. So that 3 tenths gap may have been flattered a little.

Car looked good. Race pace was well ahead of everyone bar Red Bull. Also kind on its tyres which is also very encouraging. Hope this is the start and we can prepare for a vintage season next year

I suspect the next several upgrades will be.
  • A new floor, not just a rework of the floor edges
  • A new diffuser
  • Beam wing updates

I'm also starting to wonder if the wide exhaust exit they have trialed 2 race weekends in a row, but not actually raced is a low drag/DF configuration for Canada.

I don’t know how trustworthy certain Twitter accounts can be but a Mercedes fan page mentioned that a new floor, new front wing and maybe new rear wing are expected at Silverstone!
