Mean.. it could have been game over for Hamilton right there

He actually had damage the entire race after that. A missing wheel cover at minimum (that I saw).

EDIT it may have been replaced at the pit stop. Not sure.
Hamilton lost the wheel cover.

How do you chose between Lewis and Newey?
Mercedes have Allison who is just as good (and probably just as expensive, but outside the cap anyway). :)

Tier 1 is Max & Lewis. That’s it.
2022 WDC result says otherwise. There's little to choose between Russell and Hamilton! Russell is quite the ace. IMO, they are close enough that the victor in WDC points (be it for the WDC itself or for a lower placing) over the season can be decided by luck and circumstance.

Russell should have been promoted as quickly as Leclerc and Gasly were, so that Russell could have competed for the 2020 & 2021 WDCs, but it is what it is, oh well. Mercedes were unfortunately sluggish in executing the promotion and buying out the Williams contract, and Russell likely did not learn as much with two more seasons at Williams than he would have at Mercedes.

Russell is clearly capable and quick (IMO only trailing Leclerc, Verstappen and his teammate in pure pace), but he's still a tenth or two short of a 38-year-old Hamilton. Races like Spain 2023 are a microcosm of what we saw last year once Mercedes stopped running experiments with Lewis' car. He was consistently on top in qualifying and had a definite pace advantage in the race.

I see that we go here in turns. On a weekend when George outperforms Lewis, all these comments take a backseat and return when Lewis has a better weekend. It's worth remembering that George still stands ahead in qualifying head to head. He is young and bound to make mistakes in his zeal to overachieve. He climbed from 12th to podium this past weekend despite lacking setup on Saturday!

Wake me up when George beats Lewis head-to-head in a race on the same strategy.

Lewis was very complimentary of George this weekend. Reminds me of Bottas almost. Usually when Lewis starts praising a teammate it's because he knows he has him covered.

A driver performs poorly in qualifying and then had to be on alternative strategy to give some hope, ends up behind team mate, but that doesn't qualify to be considered poor weekend. Saudi, Miami. :)

Seems you’ll find any way to elevate GR and denigrate LH to prove your point that LH is bang average really and it’s all the car.

At the Spanish GP, Ham used the radio 234 times, while Russell nearly doubled that with 411 times.

Of course I struggle. I just don’t quit.

A weekend or 2 does not decide a season. After all, the current wdc leader has been bested by his teammates twice as well.

My reply was an answer to a very specific point. But thanks for the enlightenment as well.

Interesting. HAM uses the radio very little, pretty much down to the frequencies of the rookies.

He's not chatty during FP or Q, but he is during the race. That's probably how it ought to be.
