Going to be a strong test for the W14B - given the W13 even made itself look good in Barcelona.

It did ok in Canada too - qualified 4th and 8th(?), finished 3rd and 4th. If Mercedes finish this Sunday with a 3rd and 4th then I think they won't be too unhappy.

The likelihood that 2 Red Bull's will definitely be faster, and highly likely Aston Martin will be too, given their new floor and raft of upgrades, and Alonso's fighting talk about crushing Mercedes in Canada etc, I think 5th and 6th will be fair or a duking of positions with Ferrari.

Well, two Bulls and a super-fast AM would make 4th and 5th a possibility, then. Assuming Stroll stuffs up as is usual and Ferrari put their drivers on full wets in the middle stint of a bone dry race (or whatever other foot-shooting silliness they come up with).

Surely if they try to force their way back onto the track it would be considered unsafe, could be that they wan to stop any potential shenanigans on Lap 1 (as we saw in Barcelona).

That would indeed be a weird decision .. and could prove costly for some.

One might think that turning around and returning to the track at the corner entrance takes so much time that an unsafe return is hardly possible because the field will have long since passed by then.
But it is unclear to me how to judge driving on the meadow.

*Race pace... qualifying will likely be different as per Spain.

Alpine are bringing updates. They are already fast on the straights, so they could end up being in the mix nearer the front - the long straight from the hairpin will play in to the hands of any car that has good top speed.

It will be interesting to see the way the teams go - downforce for the first half of the track means being slow on that long straight (and the long run to the hairpin). Being slightly slower in the twisties but faster on the straight might pay off for some drivers.

Speaking of back on the track, this year the organizers are making us walk from the hairpin to the pit lanes for the pit walk... every other year they've organized bus shuttles. The authentic pleb experience
