That was pure mediocrity from Aston Martin and Mercedes. Where on earth did their pace evaporate to? Jumped by Mclaren? th?
I'd like to hear takes on this.
The obvious take for me, is that McLaren have in recent years always gone well at Austria. It seems to be the one track, especially where Norris does well. I think they'll be back in the midfield next weekend.

A correlation between car itself and a single track, or says more about the team or driver understanding one track better than other tracks and can therefor set up better.

I totally agree with this. It's a one-off rather than a trend after their upgrades.

It's a sprint weekend and AMR have had only a few dry sessions since their big upgrade package & are still understanding it. High-speed has never been their strength either of which there are many corners at Austria. With some dry weekends and more understanding AMR will resurge IMO.

Austria on paper heavily suits McLaren who are one of the strongest in high speeds and one of their largest weaknesses in drag is mitigated by the thinner air. It's also historically a fantastic track for Norris

No clue about merc. I expected them to be quick here given their high-speed strength since Imola upgrade & one of their main weaknesses is drag.. Maybe setup woes and couldn't solve them with more than 1 Free practice?

Mercedes always gets flattered in Spain, now that the final chicane is gone (thank lord) it might be even more so.
Truth of the matter is that outside of Barcelona there hasn't been the "great turn around" that people expected.

In Canada they were helped by Ferrari being out of position and Alonso having "problems", i believe they would've gotten dusted by them in a clean weekend.
Silverstone is another track where they always do well, so everyone should also take their results and excitement about their upgrades with reservations.

Aston i'm still scratching my head, but the Mclaren had lots of pace, Norris stuck with Sainz at the end.

Max takes all available points available for the race weekend, record setting is it not?
8+25+1...34pts?

unfortunately Checo couldn't get the max available points for 2nd place, that'll have to wait for the next sprint weekend!

Yuki's race was a bit of a mixed bag, he raced pretty well considering the incidents and track limits. Car is a POS and need of a major overhaul.

Yuki needs to cool down a bit. Not much, just a bit. He took so much risk that opening lap. That is then not only for yourself, but also for others.

That T1 lunge was straight out of a Monza open lobby

Aston Martin have protested the results of the race and have been summoned to the stewards. Unclear about what at this time

My expectation is that it will be about unseen/uninvestigated Norris track limit violations. And this could get rather messy if every team begins gathering footage of each other. The competitive order could change substantially?

One could argue that McLaren have had even less time with a similarly extensive package of upgrades on only a single car and so should have even more to come from the optimisation of the setup for the package.

Added to that the fact McLaren say this is only half of the overall package, I think the step they're making towards the sharp end of the grid might be genuine. We will have some answers in less than a week...

Tbh, I’m amazed Norris didn’t get a penalty. Onboard was obvious. Was already warned half way through the race, and then locked up allowing Perez through, and then went wide at the last corner twice near the end. Pretty blatant.
