I like how everyone is worried about whether they like or dislike the chrome livery and don’t seem to bothered that we might not see the full 75% of the upgrade on Oscar’s car in Silverstone (just the same 50% Lando had) and the remaining 25% might not make it for either driver in Hungary.

They're producing what they can. The update has been cleared to be produced but it's just a matter of what is possible in a short amount of time.

What's the point in sitting here moaning that Oscar might not get the 75% when there's every likelihood that it will turn up ready for him on Friday? Even if it doesn't, what good will us complaining do

They could've held back the first parts of the upgrade until Hungary when more would've been ready, but they made the (with hindsight of Austria's results) great move to rush it and bring parts of the upgrade early & to one car. It also seems to be a significant step in the right direction. So I think McLaren deserves praise. Hasn't this thread been full of condemnation of the team enough?

And as for the remaining 25% of the update: perhaps not as critical to rush this last part of the update as it's not a huge thing for performance at a track like Hungary. We don't know

Yea they have done a great job don’t get me wrong.
I’m not that bothered who gets what and when either- it’s ready when it’s ready.

It’s just a shame that the final 25% we were told about might not happen now and will be spread over a couple or races.
We’ve seen how well upgrades can work thanks to Lando. I- like us all I’m sure want to see more upgrades, especially if Austria is anything to go by!

I guess they're weighing up how much to spend on the season. They're talking now about the post-summer lockdown upgrade as something that may happen, just as the Hungary updates.

Maybe if they produce the last 25% Hungary updates, the likelihood of a late season upgrade goes down. It's all a balance of budget and resources. More spent on this year means less for next year & if they can see their aerodynamic updates that they are putting on the car now are working perfectly, it's a good sign that working on next year's car with the current methodology & thinking could bear significant fruit

Having Google as a sponsors sort of dooms you to look like a clown car. The company famously has no aesthetic sense, which is impressive considering they have only a million employees to potentially draw upon... Their corporate culture is artless. They were being sort of ironic twenty years ago when they went "all the primary colors lol" corporate identity; well the humor's subsided. They even call their endless cringe cartoons they make people look at "doodles," because, well, what else are you going to call them, they suck. Then they suggest "durr rainbow wheels on da rayz karr" fs.

How much weight does the paint add? Red Bull and Ferrari both are painted "head to toe" and yet they are quite fast.

To paint an F1 car you need at least 6 kg of paint.

Appreciate the effort to answer the question, but it was rhetorical. How can weight be a factor with McLaren but not with the aforementioned teams?

How so? Outside the wheels, the papaya is all McLaren. Light blue predates Chrome.
anyway,... A Chrome/ Papaya car would look snazzy. It seems most like the Chrome concept, we should "bomb" McLaren how much we love the Chrome and papaya. LOL (Less black... black is boring! (Mercedes silver and AR white and red looked way better than they do now. Haas is just straight-up sin against the eyes. LOL

It is a factor for everyone, but both teams have a much stronger link to a specific branding and look.
Ferrari won't leave the garage unless they are fully dressed and looking good, it is part of their style.

Red Bulls branding is not quite as stringent as Ferraris but there is still a very strong association between Red Bull and that colour/styling. To have the car half black would not be optimal in terms of branding, and they don't need it, because they are so damn fast.

Perhaps if Red Bull are the second fastest car and not ahead by a long way they might cut back on paint.

Since we can't control production of parts at MTC, and as per Stella, they are working their butts off to get it done, we now focus on their silly livery...

And what would you say makes McLaren F1 disconnected from McLaren Cars? Any different from Ferrari who have far longer history as carmakers? The papaya comes up in road cars very often and now the Atura has a V6 hybrid PU so……

Isn’t the reason or excuse for Piastri not running updates a handy reference point? Deliberate or convenient? I’m sure Oscar would have been happy to play along for the sake of the long game, though after the crappy weekend he had in Austria that might fade.

Oscar is a rookie and I'm sure he wouldn't mind being a team player... If it was deliberate for doing direct comparisons and the benefits outweighed the negatives, I support it 100%...

There are so many colors in nature and that is why people have a favorite color or color scheme! Been watching F1 since the 80's and I for one think this is an amazing livery with so much history behind it! I am absolutely loving this!

Just production constraints due to bringing the first upgrade forward I seem to remember. Did work OK well for comparing the two though.
