If the side pods get updated irs either water slide or a return of the full zero-pod with undercut. This sanity check of the vanilla pod sorta proved that it didn't fix the traction issues..
Well if anything it proves that the sidepods aren't necessarily the silver bullet that everyone is touting it to be.

Lately seem they like hyping things up. It probably gives their employees, drivers, sponsors a morale boost but also keeps the public hooked while protecting their images But if reality doesn't match their claims, they could end up losing credibility.
Is it them or is it media. If you listen to Lewis, he seems fairly resigned to this year being a lost one and for 2024 work to start in earnest.

Mercedes have imrpoved...Austria was probably their worst race pace week of the new regs. Its just that other teams improve too and turn your bad weeks into minor disasters.

So same as before as far as i can tell
Apparently they’ve only brought a new front wing here…

Funny how they keep hyping up huge upgrades that are going to bring huge performance yet they end up in even worse positions than last year!

Curious to see how they’re going to make the rear more stable! How are they going to find more rear downforce and traction!
Sometimes a FW can help add downforce later in the car, outwash and things like that.
It's kinda easy to produce a massive FW that brings a lot of local load, but not always desireable.

Anyway, the car isn't assembled for show and tell yet, having the old body+sidepods outside of the garage doesn't necessarily mean another one isn't coming.
I really really hope I’m wrong, I just based my assumptions on Twitter’s most notable rumors (which I can’t post here anymore because Elon changed his mind on how Twitter should work)

It’s true though that a front wing can change a big part the car’s aero map since it’s the first thing that comes in contact with the air! I expect something that produces more outwash like Red Bull’s more inboard loaded FW…

At Mercedes, the second major update package planned - which certainly includes a new front wing - is aimed at solving the problems of the black arrows in slower speed corners . A source inside the team described this package as “big in the sense of important, but it's not many pieces” . Since the updates brought to Spain in 2022, slow corners have always been a difficulty for the Brackley car and the data proves it, because considering the minimum speed measurements, the W14 is the fifth force under 130 km/h. The behavior of the car in the complex of Village/Loop and Vale/Club will be important for the engineers.

The front wing is what everyone agrees there will be a new one, other parts are a bit more nebulous.
Mercedes usually has a good front(they didn't at Austria but that was because they took out so much FW angle that the car was left unresponsive) from everything i've heard, so i'm expecting something not focussed on increasing local downforce but improving airflow further down the car.

Another thing to keep in mind in this discussion of "which aero surfaces will change?", right after the Barcelona race i believe James Alisson(?) said there's more progress to be made with suspension and platform control than reshaping sidepods/body.
Maybe that's an area that is being modified rather than sidepods again.
Mercedes changed the front suspension at Monaco, suppousedly they plan to redesign the rear for next year being constrained by the regs to do something now, maybe some of the things that will be part of the 2024 car can be pushed forward.

According to Lewis it's just a front wing this weekend. Interesting considering Toto said it was a bigger package than Monaco. 1:06 into the video

Probably Toto was trying to force RB to bring updates as well by signalling their own upgrades would be massive.

I am sure they will be able to improve their car, but this feels like the reverse of the Merc communication of downplaying we have seen in their dominant years.

could it be that they were planning on the raft of upgrades but the recent races have forced them to hold back to reanalyze on a few areas?

"Toto spoke of a big update for Silverstone, because of the important experiments we will carry out on Friday, not because the update package includes many new parts," an internal source told us.

if thats the case he chose a weird way to word it, the way he said it made it seem like there was this raft of upgrades coming that would give them a big jump in performance, add to that him saying if he had to pick a track they could win at it would be silverstone.

Soooo… I should brace myself with adding another disappointment to my collection of the last two years??

Then again, Brackley is just a stones throw away. They could theoretically bring parts in by truck quickly

Could there be more upgrade parts showing up today? Was only the front wing approved, and maybe the rest approved last night or this morning before FP1!?
Of course I struggle. I just don’t quit.
