Amazing turn-around by the team, never gave up hope, hopefully the race pace is there to give Alpine something to be worried about

Good job by the team, great turnaround!
Very impressive to be honest. They started the season with the 8th-9th fastest car. I know it's just qualifying, and if they can't back it up with race pace it doesn't mean much. But just to have the ultimate pace to be the fastest car after RedBull in a track like Silverstone which got them all in terms of corner types, it is very impressive.

It must have been a big boost in numbers that McLaren has seen in the numbers behind the scenes for these upgrades, because rarely you see them boasting themselves. But Andrea Stella was pretty confident on cutting the gap and mixing in with the top 4 after these upgrades.

Mclaren have now done enough to merit belief in their processes.

I remember one person here predicting Mclaren to start winning after the Summer Break? What did he know? Image

It is now obvious that the Austria result wasn't a fluke. It proves a few things.

1)James Key and Andreas Seidl were both failures. The first for being overrated as the new Andrian Newey and he only managed to make backwards steps compared to the car that Pat Fry left him with (1 pole, 1-2 in Monza, a missing 2nd pole and a missing 2nd win). The second brought Porshe to domination but F1 is in a completely different league.
2)The Matrix leadership is back and it's proven to deliver results. As a fellow Greek I always believed that Peter Prodromou was a very good aerodynamist anad as it was shown because of James Key his potential was wasted. Along with Neil Oatley who came back and Andrea Stella who produced those last two years fantastic Ferrari cars it's proven to bring results.
3)It's finally proven that having new infrastructure isn't something that will magically give you the front.

Who lead the program for the upgrades? Key or not?

Key's last contribution was the package that came before Austria. These new stuff have come from the new team Stella has put together.

And I am pretty sure Key was an overly cautious kind of guy. They played it too safe and the team admitted that after the season started in 2023. Now that he is gone, Podromou was allowed to explore different, more risky aero solutions?

The risk has payed off. I know there's noticeable change in sidepod philosophy, but I think the biggest contributor has got to be the new floor. They must be "cooking" something under there.
