But we all know (and confirmed by Andreas after Key was fired) that the Maclaren cars had abnormal handling traits that Lando was able to adapt to having started his F1 career there. Daniel was unable to ever fully trust the car as a result.

Frankly, Key should have been fired years ago, then maybe PP would have been able to deliver a great car from the start of the new regs.
A driver worth his salt should manage to do the job with any given equipment, either better than his team mate or atleast as good. Unfortunately, Daniel didn't. So blaming car, designer, engineers, food in cafeteria and color of toilet seats would be in poor taste.
Twaddle, Daniel performed extremely well in everything he drove, including the CrapBox HRT, Torro Rosso, RBR and Renault - it was only the PoS McLaren's he couldn't get to grips with because of their abnormal handling, making them difficult for him to trust. If a top level driver can't trust a car, he can't get 10/10ths out of it.
A driver is not top level if he can't handle a bad car, especially when his team mate has.

I haven't seen anyone else being convinced about Daniel other than you here. Anyway, you can hold on to your opinion. I criticizing him or you fighting for him makes no difference to what Red Bull are going to do with him. If Red Bull doesn't give him a chance alongside Max, that proves something. Bye. :)

By your logic, Jensen Button isn't a very good driver because he wasn't able to adapt to driving a NASCAR as well as V8 Supercar driver Shane Van Gisbergen, who qualified 3rd and won the Chicago street race on debut. And this is despite Jensen having dramatically more seat time in a NASCAR, including the lightly modified NASCAR he raced at Le Mans!

Oh, and how did Kimi Raikkonen do in his NASCAR races? He must not be very good either!

Having a driving style that suits a particular car's handling traits, can not be underestimated!

Daniel Ricciardo is set to replace Nyck de Vries after the summer break, as per F1-Insider sources

The rest of the season would be about comparing Tsunoda and Ricciardo.
Not sure how true that is. Does anyone know if DR has any racing clauses tied to his contract after he left Mclaren? If true, it could be a plan to get DR in the Perez seat in/after 2024.

so if Tsunoda outperforms Dan (not likely but not impossible) does that mean he gets the Red Bull seat?

NdV finding out that being a young F1 driver in the Red Bull stable is very tough gig. Don't get much time to prove yourself.

Indeed, not nice, but F1 is brutal.

NdV is an average driver who went from having no opportunity in the Mercedes stable, to half of a season in the RB stable. The kind of talent that these teams are looking for in their succession plans do not need half of a season to "prove themselves". The sports greatest made their talents apparent from the first test.

He was very lucky he got such an opportunity, despite Horner was not convinced of him in the first place. But it is good for him anyways as he was never going to find out at Mercedes if he was good enough.

He cannot complain. He bypassed more talented F-2 champions to get an F-1 seat.
Daniel could be beaten by Tsunoda on raw pace. But I would love to see him back.
I do not think he is a bad driver, he just had 2 bad years.
For Sure!!

Considering Daniel got every single one of his F1 GP wins in non-dominant cars, I'd suggest anyone who thinks he is has rocks in their heads.

I dont think tsunoda is an option for the main team yet. He's maturing but I think that he isn't ready. Marko doesn't even mention tsunoda in conversations about who could replace Perez now or for 2024.

Couple more years and he'd be ready, but a team like Audi may come knocking before then

I think Tsunoda is a really solid driver, but he's not top team material.

I feel sad that Alex Palou is not getting that seat after the Indycar season
