Web description NACA duct

"How do NACA ducts work?
NACA Ducts use the air attached to the plane or car and suck it inwards. The air hits the gentle ramp angle and the curvature profile of the walls and creates counter-rotating vortices. The NACA Duct is the smart designed shape that tricks airflow with the least amount of drag, that would eat fuel and speed"

And one of the most effective/efficient way to split off surface air with absolute minimal drag penalty.

The 1945 paper that investigated the duct can be read here if one has the time: https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/200 ... 061115.pdf

Wonder what they are going to bring this time.

Hopefully its not a merge towards the Ferrari/AMR style sidepods.

However I would laugh if they roll up with a zeropod design.
They will bring zero pods. :wtf:
If they did you would hear my laughter from there
That car is so well designed and so darned fast that they could just turn up the engine, and roll in with zero sidepods just to throw a wrench in everyones development cycle for next year.

After the British GP, Max's car was randomly chosen for more extensive physical inspections

Among those was also a fuel system inspection, and all concluded to be in conformance with the 2023 Formula 1 Technical Regulations.

Current rumour from a RB mechanic on Twitter is that the sidepods aren't similar to the amr/McLaren gully approach

Nice note from Nyck, thanks for posting. =D>

And this:
PS: I received some interesting articles about things I’ve said in the last week. For clarity, I haven’t spoken to any media and for the time being I’ll enjoy some me time. Wishing you all a nice summer
Did anyone really believe the stuff that was put out in his name? It was the sort of stuff that ends a career so was obviously total rubbish. Social media has a lot to answer for.

We might end up with just a variant of the Aston Martin / Alpine style side-pod, but ahead of that my guess would be this: There has been a quote from Pierre Wache about still needing to improve front-end grip for better car rotation. My guess is that they are especially in need of this on high-downforce tracks, hence the introduction of an upgrade here in Hungary. So my guess is that they'll try to move center of pressure forward. So maybe some re-design of the front upper part of the sidepod around the inlet and inlet-lip to better work together with increased front wing angle. Additionally maybe they'll try to get rid of some lift in the first half (lenght-wise) of the upper sidepod surface by keeping it horisontal and start the down-slope later. Might add some drag but should move center of pressure forward. Anyway.. total guesswork from my side.

My guess now is just an even larger undercut. A true floating sidepod look.

I expect something like Aston Martin’s first 2022 side pods but with some kind of water slide in them like Ferrari in 2022…
