in 2011, it was not a blown diffuser. It was the fan tail (octopus) exhaust. they quickly copy RB exhaust in the first race (australia) and found 1s gain. I remembered Newey was not happy with that copy cat, but it was proven to be the mainstream exhaust design by the season goes by.

In 2009, Honda engineers brought a double diffuser on the Brawn GP car. In 2010, Red Bull made a blown diffuser along with a fake painted exhaust system. Further, the position of the exhaust pipe was moved so as not to extract hot gas flows to seal the diffuser. But Adrian Newey found a loophole in 2011 as well. At that time, it was still considered a blown diffuser. At the same time, during tests at McLaren, their system was copied, after the original version was unsuccessful. In 2012, there were still changes in the technical regulations, which would completely prohibit the use of a blown diffuser, at the same time certain restrictions were imposed on the mapping of the motor (remember cold and hot exhaust?). Then in 2012, McLaren brought an exhaust system based on the Coanda effect. Further paint does not see the point.

Look, I didn't write who first came up with this in Formula 1. Read my first post. It was about the fact that I had not seen such a sharp increase in performance in a short period of time for a long time and mentioned the McLaren of the 2011 model.

I'm not sure what job or role Mika has in f1 these days but he must of had it on good authority to make such vastly bold predictions that turn out to be so true

Coulthard said on the F1TV today when asked a similar question that Mika is a McLaren brand ambassador and gets inside information that way. Meaning that Mika did not guess but rather had sources in McLaren tell him their expected gains. Maybe informally but it seems to be relatively accurate.
