Andrew Benson said it Checquered Flag Pod. Also, visually you can see from his onboard how he struggled through 13 & 14.
Look at verstappen's onboard, he's got same snaps in T13 and 14 on both his q3 laps, but thats not because of wind suddenly. Not once did I hear hamilton or verstappen or anyone apart from sainz at one point mention wind in qualifying or in any post quali interview.
Benson attended the press conference, he’s reporting. Go checkout the pod yourself or the orig source quote will be in the transcript of the press conference.
I think that had more to do with tyres overheating the end of the lap. It's a common occurrence in the Hungaroring, this track is quite harsh on tyres.
I watched entire press conference. Not one mention of wind.214270 wrote: ↑22 Jul 2023, 23:45Benson attended the press conference, he’s reporting. Go checkout the pod yourself or the orig source quote will be in the transcript of the press conference.

Ok sorry, i missed it somehow . Looking at his previous lap he lost a tenth or just a little more in T14 and on exit combined, but he could also just go in too fast, his minimum speed in T14 is 7 kmh higher on final run.214270 wrote: ↑23 Jul 2023, 00:21https://www.pitpass.com/75730/Hungarian ... conference
“I was actually four tenths up going into the last corner but I don't know if there's a crosswind but we got a big snap and I lost a tenth and a half or something like that, almost two tenths.“
That was definitely down to driving mastery. you can sorta see where the overall better down-force helps the RB19 carry more speed into the wider corners, whereas HAM had a more wide racing line to get better exits. He wasn't better on braking or anything in particular just a wider racing line.
Hamilton specifically referenced it in the official post-qualifying press conference.
Am I the only one that thinks that the mess that cost George was caused by Lewis backing up things way longer than necessary ? Yes George also fecked up by not going, but it was a knock on from Lewis.chrisc90 wrote: ↑22 Jul 2023, 18:38Good quali from Lewis today. Georges was just a mess. Too late and too hesitant to maintain order at the final corner to get a lap in. Cost him dearly that mistake. But its the risk you take leaving it til the very end without a good banker.
I thought that little slide at the end for Lewis blew his chances, but somehow he managed to just keep enough to nip it ahead of Max. I think everyones softs were on the edge at the end of a hot lap with the temperatures.
Should be a good race tomorrow.
Lewis had to wait for at least three cars infront of him before he could go. He overtook a Ferrari before the second to last turn but got repassed before the last corner. So no it wasn’t Lewis fault, Merc just left it ever so slightly too late
George has George to blame. He let the whole grid jump him and his tires cooled out of the window causing him to blow it in S1.Puffpirat wrote:Lewis had to wait for at least three cars infront of him before he could go.
