I think McLaren catching Ferrari is likely. The car is faster in all conditions and it seems at most track types. Only Singapore and maybe Monza could be problems compared to Ferrari.

McLaren are also operationally better (by far) and morale is exceptionally high. The two drivers are also clearly gelling with the car and are both performing well. Seems likely they catch Ferrari/amr imo
Do we want them to? Or would it be wiser to take 5th and all the CFD and Wind Tunnel time that comes with it?

I do not think that matters at all. It is about using your CFD and wind tunnel right, not how much time you have. RedBull has the lowest time and one of the oldest tunnels...but the smart people to use it right.
In the end McLaren is still not 100% financially healthy, I think they have still the highest loss in F1. Money is still king as long as you can shift engineers between projects.

Same thought crossed my mind but it’s something they’ll have to suffer if they are ever successful =P~ =P~ =P~

Spa looks like a perfect storm for McLaren. Low temperature, possibility of rain, sprint weekend so little time to dial car in (McLaren looked good immediately at last two tracks). A track where Lando showed he can do well in rain. His second home race. I expect another podium, but I am hoping for a win (as a fan) or at least Piastri podium.

But realistically, I would be very happy with both cars in top 6.

Does anyone know details of Oscar's contract, with regards to length? 1+1, 2 or 2+1, etc?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

I believe it’s for at least 2 years. A guaranteed race seat for 2024, and a reserve/race seat if available for 2023

2 years, or 2+1 makes the most sense, after all the grief they went through to get him.

😂, it’s definitely true… it was widely reported & at the time of signing Daniel still had a contract, but I think it was clear to both parties that Oscar would be racing in 23

Apparently, Alpine have a better driver line up without Oscar anyway

I believe the issue with slow corner speed is mostly an issue because the Merc's are really good in the area, actually the only area where they are performing.

If merc upgrade gives more of a balance to their car in all scenarios you could argue their slow speed corner prowess my dwindle a bit... But part of me believes this just comes from geometry and nothing to do with aero package, so the main threat is still there.

The good news is that the Piastri tyre drop off was due to floor damage, and colder temps at the weekend should really hurt the mercs and favour the macca's

They just need to stay on it, if RBR have a mechanical failure it would be great for mclaren to take that win, it would hurt mercedes a lot
