Be interesting if they are using the hot air from say coolers/radiators in the sidepods to feed the hotter air to the diffuser. A bit like a crude blown diffuser.
The EBD used the energy from the exhaust flow, not the heat. There is no energy left in the flow coming from cooling

I don't see why the change at the inlet would be a lot more efficient. The effective frontal area is the same. The inlet still remains the same size when viewed from flow direction. The main advantage of the change is feeding air to the undercut which powers up the air going to the floor edge, tyre squirt area and diffuser. Its a downforce increase but I don't see why it would be a lot better for reducing drag

Max said in press conference it should help on the corners mostly when asked where the update would have an effect

Ebd isn't possible with air that's gone through intercoolers etc

If anything they've moved their cooling outlet flows around the rear away from aerodynamic elements (lowering the cannon exit, raising the small exit that is next to a rear suspension wishbone) with the latest update, aiming to put it more between the BW and RW to have less of an impact on the df generation

Another great episode with their Chief Designer and Head of Performance, especially the bit about the exhaust upgrade back in 2012: starting at 21:15

[-o< That exhaust system is a phenomenal bit of engineering.

Also, when quizzed on whether the RB20 would be revolutionary, he gave nothing away...

Aston Martin signs key Red Bull name

Aston Martin has recently signed with Red Bull aerodynamic specialist Thijs van Rees.

Aston Martin declined to comment on the matter, but sources have confirmed that Red Bull's senior aerodynamic engineer,
Thijs van Rees, has gone to Aston Martin.

Thijs van Rees will take on the new "chief aerodynamicist" position at Aston Martin.

Looking at Van Rees' past, it can be clearly seen that he has been involved in big teams for a long time.

Van Rees worked at Williams Racing between 2013-16, and at Mercedes between 2017-20 and most recently at Red Bull.

Aston Martin's new transfer has started his new position as of July.

According to SoyMotor's report, Van Rees will replace Guru Johl, chief of aerodynamics, who has agreed to move to AlphaTauri.

Johl has been with Aston Martin/Racing Point/Force India since 2015 but will join AlphaTauri as of next season.

Interestingly, the times that Van Rees worked often coincided with the times when those teams were in their heyday in F1.

This makes him stand out as a successful aerodynamicist.

5 place grid penalty for Max Verstappen next Sunday in Spa, so not for the sprint race, because of a gearbox change.

He fills up his pool like this after a gearbox broke in Jeddah. Mini catch-up race guaranteed

Wonder if they will unleash a bit more pace with having to start in 5th place

I don't think they need to, but when it is (a little) wet everything changes.

Maybe one day Verstappen will get to start this race from pole...

He'd probably prefer the win over a pole position.

Having the penalty at spa is strategic too. Easy place to overtake and lap the feild.
For Sure!!

Yes, he has a really fast car, but that was an amazing lap.

Verstappen is like the final boss in a racing game who has a ridiculous fast car. And Perez is like the player who unlocks that car and the car is no longer that quick.

It is, it's just the driver isn't even close.

What a lap from Max. He is in a different league compared to the rest of the grid.
