Very odd session from George. In Q3 with DRS enabled he should've been more competitive with his medium df wing, but couldn't find the pace. He said himself in postrace comments that he was just slow, and the car didn't feel too bad. Every time performance is added to the car, Lewis' gap to George increases.

George started his lap pretty late. He also got jumped by Perez atleast accorsing to the driver tracker I believe before starting last lap? That must have compromised him. George also beat ham in British quali and would have been up there in hungary without the traffic mishap from Mercedes.I don't see much to worry.
He doesn’t know why he was slow

What's the head to head for race and quali now?
Since Lewis started to move ahead i notice no more tabs on those stats.
This recent form is boding well for Hamilton and his contract negotiations. The team still needs a driver like him. They could be as loss as Alpine are who have two young drivers.
I dare to say ocon and gasly conyributed to Alan and Otmar losing their jobs with their poor performance. The alpine isnt a bad car.

The good thing is George's reputation still cannot be damaged much even by losing to Hamilton week in and week out. He only loses a little shine. He is still racing well despite being a little bit behind.

Totto looks annoyed after the beatdown from redbull. This was the same last year. The whopping 1 second gap also got under his skin.
For Sure!!

That's not good to hear. Was hoping it was traffic or starting the lap with 2 seconds to go or something.

I think Russell has been good this year. The only mistake I can think of is in Canada. Even when he qualifies poorly he makes it up in race like in Spain and Hungary. Similar to Hamilton in Miami. Mercedes are lucky they have such a good pairing.

This is what i am seeing. It was like same in 2022, lewis had that 10 race run where he out-performed George and got qualy advantage over him by end of season. I really don't know why it seems to me that lewis can extract more from the car when he has the confidence as the car gets more stable. George needs to work out how to extract maximum from the car when the car gets better.

ham is just done experimenting with car setups to fix the plaguing issues. we all know how well he can drive when the car is working. george is just getting a taste of it.

Is there a reason to do so? They appears to be trying different setups on both cars with Lewis going with a little lower downforce to George. Yet Lewis is around a second down on Max. Ferraris seems to have done similar to Lewis. McLarens have gone with higher downforce setup, probably betting for wet Sunday. It's hard to measure their relative absolute positioning among that secondary group. But it doesn't look a whole lot has significantly changed with this upgrade. Might have to wait for a few more races to clearly conclude though.
You can't really read anything into the gaps in a qualifying like this. Conditions where far to variable.

Honestly think that was Lewis' best qually this season. That was maximum extraction in those conditions...sector two was so difficult for him

i agree with the DF russell had he should of been quicker in S2 than lewis and should of been as quick as Piastri. Poor qualy by russell for me.

Like many I too am struggling with RUS being down 0.232 in S2 to HAM; doesn’t make sense.

He seemed content in interviews, hopefully we see an onboard comparison.

Maybe Russell simply knows Hamilton did a sensational lap especially the S2 and shouldn't beat himself up. Sometimes Hamilton will do those performances. Iirc ham has always liked a low df setup here

HAM is the teammate and so is the go-to comp, but really the concern comes from comps to others with a similar wing, Rb and McL - VER S2 45.697, PIA S2 45.852. RUS could only muster 46.737 and like it’s been mentioned was pretty content with the balance & didn’t make mention of a mistake. That’s quite something
