Looking at sectors hamilton actually only lost a tenth in S1 on his last run compared to his previous lap, but still ended up 0.844 adrift in the end. Looking at how much other improved in S1 on final lap I'd put it at a net 4 tenths lost due to russell incident. Still only good around 5th or 6th position.

Probably more than that. His line in T1 was not optimal, following George through T2 and T3 cost him downforce/cornering speed and lifting the throttle behind George cost him 10kph. There was definitely more than 6 tenths on the table for Lewis if even he says that P1 or P2 was on the table.

You'd have to think he would have improved a lot more than a tenth in sector 1 with the better conditions. Wasn't he usually purple or damn near it in that sector with no DRS? Pole was possible.

The biggest issue with rain is densely packed field and spray. If we start in the dry, there would be field spread before the rain arrived.

p.s. and its all fun till you get in similar situation and end up with bruised spleen that hurt like a broken rib for 3 weeks, I of course am perfect and never trip on stairs, info from a friend

Rain tires (intermediate or wet) cannot be covered with blankets while on the formation grid! Didn't know that.

Up until now, Mercedes hasn't brought the rain tires out on the grid.

You have to count slipstream where he actually gained time, so 1 tenth sound reasonable.

the rules say "The “sprint shootout” [...] start no less than four and a half (4.5) hours before the scheduled start of the sprint session", so I guess there wasn't much leeway.

Although it makes no sense to word it that way around obviously, as the "scheduled start" of the sprint afaik never changed.
