He doesn't have the new wing which will help somewhat. He also looks pretty snappy overall. Alonso will find some time when the new floor is added but we look good.
Not much to be pessimistic about for McLaren but Saturday IS another day. The new rear wing looks promising enough but I wouldn’t have thought it’s a Monza difference maker. Both drivers have shown plenty of pace in P2, even if Oscar was unable to execute soft tyre running. The amount of work they did with aero rakes in the first half of P1 will have provided plenty of data to build more than just the Zandvoort weekend with. To have produced such a strong run after that, in P2 is encouraging. Will be intriguing to see how AM performs with their “significant” upgrade, but early indications are Ferrari are in trouble here.
Even if it is 5kph faster at Monza it is a big difference, the telemetry suggests the wing is more efficient.
Will this kind of change be necessary at Monza or will it be more efficient to revert back to the previous RW?
With the beam wing pushing more air upwards and with the big rear wing creating a greater differential in pressure as it pushes more air upwards then more airflow is being pulled behind the wings and up through the rear of the car. That opening in the sides may simply be removing a bottleneck which is more of an efficiency penalty that retaining the sides of the rear wing.

Both Lando and Oscar are running the older rear wing spec..
Lando mentioned yesterday that they would have to choose between qualy performance and race performance so I suspect they want the higher downforce for the race and tire management.
I thought the same, so had a look on the app and it’s not really the case.

To be fair Lando did 22 laps….
Wonder why they aren't running the new rear wing. Hopefully not another weather gamble, is tomorrow meant to be wet or dry?
The other consideration could be that they didn't want to risk the new wing in a wet FP3 especially after Oscar broke his yesterday. Perhaps we may see it back on both cars come quali.
