Daniel had to choose: hit Piastri or the wall. He chosed the wall! =D>

This is from yesterday, Daniel to see Dr. Mir in Barcelona:
.
Daniel Ricciardo is expected to undergo surgery as early as Sunday after breaking his wrist in a crash with fellow Australian driver Oscar Piastri during a Dutch Grand Prix practice session.
Red Bull chief Christian Horner has confirmed that Ricciardo will be sidelined until at least next week’s Italian Grand Prix but will be back sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Horner gave an optimistic timeline for Ricciardo to return to action next month for the Singapore Grand Prix. “He’s headed off today to Barcelona,” said Horner. “They may even have a little operation on him tomorrow to tidy up where that break is, it’s quite a clean break.

“Then of course it’s all about the recuperation and how long that takes. Any normal human being would be able 10-12 weeks but we know …

Hmm not so optimistic from Fabrega
The operation on Ricciardo's hand has gone well. He will stay in Barcelona for a few days. There was more damage than they expected. Lawson will continue to drive in Monza and we will have to see how the Australian evolves, but being in Singapore seems like a very optimistic option.

The retirements (4?) help the race result seem better, and on track he finished behind Tsunoda but a late penalty from the clash with Russell put Lawson ahead

Still a good performance after the restart. Overtook Bottas and Magnussen on track and was <1s behind Tsunoda

As a NZer I'll be a new follower of AT team to see if our new hope Lawson performs well enough to stay in the mix for F1 drives in 2024. As has been said many times Liam was on a "hiding to nothing" stepping in after FP2 with no track time before in the car and virtually no simulator work either as I understand it. Then there was the matter of changeable showery conditions on a track that really bites. Given Yuki had a very strong first half until the team gambled badly, the spread between the two AT drivers wasn't too great unlike AM, Williams and Ferrari. Staying out of trouble and finishing the race was completed - tick! Showing some fight and race craft with other drivers would be a bonus - tick! He certainly didn't disappoint on debut but Professor Marko is a tough taskmaster.

It is quite possible Ricciardo will not drive again this season, they only way he will be back is if Lawson massively dissapoints, I feel.

Your feelings have very little to do with reality, Horner and Marko have made it very clear Daniel is aiming to be back in the car for Singapore.

Singapore? That is Thursday Sept 14!! In 2 1/2 weeks!!

Horner didn't say that at all!
.
In conversation with the BBC, Horner provides an update on the situation at the sister team:
"It was a fairly simple procedure. For Daniel it is now all about his recovery.
For a normal person, the recovery period takes a few months, for a racing driver it is usually shorter.
.
A few months is 10 - 12 weeks at least. "Usually shorter" doesn't mean 2 1/2 weeks!

This "until he is fully fit" messaging suggest a longer stay for Liam.

"Liam Lawson will race until Ricciardo is fully fit" is more confidence inspiring, better optics, and less pressure on ricciardo to return, than saying each weekend Daniel is not available that Lawson will replace him
