I really doubt the team suddenly changed their approach to Fridays and is running with more power or less fuel.

I think it is likely the car is decent, but maybe not as good on harder compounds of tyre. This is what Lando said. Piastri was more positive, but he also said if they can get to Q3, the car will be fine so I think the pace on softs is real but hards/mediums may be more of a struggle.

But tomorrow I expect the team to make a step forward and make it to Q3 easier than we expect. What position we end up in the end is anyones guess but I'd say we will have at least one car in top 5.

The data from FP2 if someone wants to play

https://easyupload.io/gks9qj
Leading the way with FastF1! Nicely done!
Thanks! I've been threatening it for a while!

Problem is some of the functions and constants in the examples are out of date, otherwise I'd plot all the data in python.

But I'm tired of waiting for data so I'm going to threaten now to plug this into a Web PowerBI installation and oublish it for self serve plus some standard charts. F1Tempo is limited due to only looking at fastest laps. Need the ability to review sessions or specify laps and lap groups.

You may be right. I just started tieing the data to runs and will look at the compounds for each run. And break the data down by run. But I got bored and stopped.

In any case Oscar said that quali is not super important here though with their top speed, it might be hard to pass even slower cars...unless they spend all but one lap on softs

Despite the not too bad Friday, I'm expecting something similar like in Spa.

It doesn't look bad, I'd say, rather I'd say there's no evidence to say it is bad.

But my hunch remains top 8 in Qualy with the larger wing.

Look at the medium tyre averages…. 9 seconds off the pace- is this Zandvoort all over again?😂😂

That's an obvious mistake in the article.

No I’m not having it!
It’s common for the drivers to lap 5 seconds quicker on their long runs compared to their quali sims in FP2🤪

That would be interesting and you could monetize it a bit too if you can add some missing functionality ;)

Odd video, as the data seems completely different from what I've seen in other sources. Paints McLaren in a much more positive position so for those of you who like to get your hopes up early into a weekend (like me) this may be the copium for you!

I expect the team to be fourth fastest team this weekend, behind RBR, Ferrari and potentially Mercedes… We may have an edge in Qualy, but Mercedes has showed better race pace… It will be an interesting weekend

I know, I'm enjoying this. I realise now that the version of FastF1 I have is probably out of date and the API Documentation correct, but I figured out what had been deprecated and what to use.

We look pretty good on Softs, to be fair, although it is a narrow set of data. On Meds we are around 4th or 5th.

We may ultimately qualify well. Someone somewhere said top 5. Hats off to you if you're right.

This backs up the Piastri statement that we will be competitive in Q3, if we can get there.
