This is one of the worst tracks to have better race pace. If Alonso cannot clear some cars, especially Haas at the start, he'll be way too far back to even crack top 5. Because Haas will struggle with tyres and cost him a lot of time. Merc will have great race pace and better tyre wear. They will be untouchable for him. Russell and Ferraris will fight for win and podium, Norris will struggle with tyres but probably hold off Hamilton.
Alo will butcher everone at the start. Just watch. I remember his start at Singapore, where he went frm p7 to p3
Wasn't it wet that year? Or I might be remembering a different year!

I hope that’s the case but overall disappointing quali for AM.
I was hoping for them to match Ferrari on their one of the strongest track on calendar but even Haas has matched them.
Strong race pace & good start for Alonso is only hope.
Lance as usual will be dancing at the back of the pack.

Think that's unfair statement. He improved in q3 in all his lap times. He just couldn't reproduce/improve the q2 s2 sector time. Don't forget the first q3 run was on used tires.

Disapointed for Singapore but not so surprised

Seems that the only non Red Bull victory will not be for AM.
And no mission 33 this year.

Let’s be optimistic and hope for a podium but it will already be a big challenge!

I really fear a poor 2024 season given the way things are evolving

Why PDL is praising Alonso effort? AM was expecting to qualify behind HAAS & Alpine?

I'm a long time Alonso fan despite being a Canadian Italian. So not sure why you're surprised?

Maybe cause I'm not a fan boy and try to be realistic?

PDL just saying Alonso got the most out of the car. Not that the combined car/drive result was great.

Was the lack of performance today maybe temperature related?
So weird to have such a massive difference between race pace and qualifying.
From what I understand, FP2 suggested that Alonso's race pace should be even better than Ferrari's and Mercedes'.
I hope that gets confirmed tomorrow and with a good start and maybe a safety car he can get back in the fight.

With how fast the track rubber ramped up. I feel that Fernando must have tried an alternative line through a few corners, and missed the bonus grip.
