Lawson might win Rookie of the Year, and still sit in 2024
LAWSON TO WILLIAMS, CONFIRMED!
You Aussies really have it in for Kiwis.runningmanz wrote: ↑23 Sep 2023, 04:12Congrats to Dan and Yuki. A no brainer really for them to continue Ricciardo with his car development experience and reference point of having driven the RB19, also he has top marketability. He has shown and mentioned too he is more comfortable in the AT and RBR then he ever was at McLaren.
Lol nah I like Liam he did very well and he has a bright future in F1. Still could get that Williams seat or called up if DR takes Perez seat at some stage or if DR or Yuki don't perform next year. He definitely got noticed up and down the F1 paddock.BMMR61 wrote: ↑23 Sep 2023, 06:47You Aussies really have it in for Kiwis.runningmanz wrote: ↑23 Sep 2023, 04:12Congrats to Dan and Yuki. No we don’t, we love our Anzac mates from across the ditch. All the best ones even become honorary Aussies.BMMR61 wrote: ↑23 Sep 2023, 06:47You Aussies really have it in for Kiwis.runningmanz wrote: ↑23 Sep 2023, 04:12Congrats to Dan and Yuki. Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo with us in 2024
23 September 2023
Scuderia AlphaTauri is pleased to announce its full driver line up for the 2024 season as Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo continue to race for the team.
Current Japanese Super Formula title contender and Scuderia AlphaTauri driver, Liam Lawson will reprise his role as reserve driver
for both Red Bull teams, focusing on testing, simulator sessions and development work, attending all the races full time.
Ricciardo has alot of value to the team for reasons previously mentioned and was a sensible choice given they said they need at least one driver with alot of experience. They already said his influence and dev work has been invaluable. Not to mention his marketability and right out of the gate he was beating Tsunoda leading the head to head 2-1.

Tsunoda remained the favourite, but RB stopped short of pressing go on a contract renewal until a couple of days before Suzuka, when Honda met with RB and pushed to get the deal over the line."

Horner explains why Lawson didn't get a seat at AlphaTauri
Horner is asked by Sky Sports whether Lawson could have done anything (different) to get a permanent seat at AlphaTauri next year.
"No, I don't think so. All of those drivers are Red Bull racing drivers, effectively based at AlphaTauri. I think Daniel with his experience, his motivation to come back, I think he'll add great leadership to that team, and I think he's a great benchmark"
There is no doubt that the New Zealander will one day drive in Formula 1. "I think Liam, it's only a matter of time before he gets his opportunity and full-time chance. To have the three of them there is very strong for the group." Whether the decision was already fixed? "HHe's certainly turned heads, gave us plenty to think about, in particular following his Singapore drive. So he's doing everything possible to justify a case for a full-time drive, but unfortunately, three in to two, doesn't go."
That sister team AlphaTauri now chooses a 34-year-old driver over a home-grown talent more than a decade younger is striking. Horner is therefore confronted with this before the start of qualifying. Does Red Bull see more in Ricciardo than Lawson for the future? The team boss turns it all around a bit.
"Well, who knows? At Red Bull Racing, we want the best two drivers that are available. We've got a long-term contract with Max. Checo is out of contract at the end of 24, and so you want to explore and see all of those options. Checo is in the hot seat at the moment, and will obviously be keen to extend.
We'll see how Daniel does, we'll see how Yuki does and in the background, we'll see what Liam's capable of in the Test and Reserve role.
Daniel is only 33, he’s not even close to being the oldest driver on the grid!
