It will be a 57 lap race. With a 3-stopper (4 stints) all teams would be fine

So for everyone except red bull there will be only 1 ‘new’ set of mediums for the race.

9/10 teams will have 1 new and a medium with SQ1/2 laps on.

Which will put them OVER the 20-22 lap limit including out/in laps.

So some teams could need a 4 stopper?
no, even for a three-stopper they'd only need to do 14 laps per stint.

True, but the ‘the number would rise to 22 for any used tyres fitted in the race’

So, 90% of teams will have at least 6 laps on a set of mediums. Unless you use a new medium in SQ1 and SQ2 which would put 3 laps on 2 new mediums (for the GP on Sunday) so would start on user mediums of a minimum of 3 laps.

Which would put you at 19 laps for the medium stint. 20 laps on the hard.

Could make it interesting. No one will be ‘managing” their tyres.

everyone must use new mediums in SQ1 and SQ2. It's not allowed to use anything else, unless it's wet.

So is that a new medium to be used for SQ1 and a new medium for SQ2? You can’t use the medium from SQ1 in SQ2?

So 19 laps on the 2 mediums for the GP and will have to start on a new hard or a used medium with 3 laps minimum on it. IF the rule is carried over.

That would take you to lap 19 on the medium, swap to hard on lap 39, and a used medium for the last 18 laps.

Excluding the formation lap I presume.

That’s at best if most teams do 1 flyer only in SQ1/2

yes:
- SQ1: one new set of mediums (and not more than one)
- SQ2: another new set of mediums (and not more than one)
- SQ3: one set of softs, new or used (and not more than one)

So there is full potential for a 4 stopper, but you would need to run twice in SQ1 or 2.

With track limits, it could easily force your hand for 4 stops if the rule is implemented and you mess up SQ1 or 2

If all drivers are obligated to make “three tyre change pitstops” then they should never reach 20 laps per stint.

Pit 1 at lap 15
Pit 2 at lap 30
Pit 3 at lap 45 till end of race

Sainz could go S-M-S-S. If they could time his stops in clean air, this could be really good for him.

They will still avoid curbs. That will slow things down to some extent. No one wants an "air loss" :P
