Russell did a few warm up laps on softs, then did a charge lap, then attempted a fastest lap with quali mode but made a mistake and backed off. During this gap came down from 8.8 to 3.6s and then fluctuated between 4.5 - 5.5s, ending at 4.8s.
Leclerc did a very slow lap before going for his PB as well.
I can't believe Ferrari didn't check all Russell laps for track limit violations. There is no end for the incompetence of this team.
You're right. Looks like he also did a charge lap and then went for it on the last lap. He was told on start finish line to push hard to get inside 5s.
These drivers are mega, though. They were done after so many laps and still having the reflexes to be that precise.

That’s pretty poor that Ferrari missed Russell’s track limits violation. Compare that to Aston Martin’s “present” for the others in Austria…

FIA didn't pick it up either. Unless Leclerc also had track limit violation which weren't being pinged and if they protested Russell they would've gotten stick straight back. Or they were just sleeping as per.

Surely they still have time to protest the classification. Like Alpine did this time last year in Austin?

The only thing i can think about is that there are no track limit specifics in that particular corner (which seems turn 10) ?

You guys have more info on the matter?

5th quickest car, quite comfortably aswell. We might aswel not show up if there are fast corners.
The snake in Austin :D

But maybe the overall balance of the car will be different due to S2 - S3 so MB won't be as quick as today (like Suzuka).
I'd be surprised if the car was as hampered at COTA as it was in Japan.

I've driven COTA and while the esses are fast and successive, I don't think the corners are nearly as long as the Suzuka esses. In the sims, it just seems like Suzuka's S1 takes forever.

I believe Russell got a warning around lap 50, if not later, so lap 46 should be one of those 3 violations. If I'm wrong, Ferrari missed a slam dunk here.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

It's not.

The deleted laps times are

Lap 8
Lap 10
Lap 55

I also checked previous FIA documents. Norris had a laptime deleted for a violation in turn 10 (same corner Russell went off track in lap 46) during qualifying.

Great work! Is it technically too late for Ferrari to raise this issue ? Given the millions on the line, it would be crazy to ignore. The odds of Mercedes finding 3 violations from Leclerc to counter this is very low.

Any protest would not be valid now. They have to be submitted within a short window after the race ends. If not, it will eventually be thrown out (even if the penalty is deserved and the FIA simply failed to apply it during the race).

We just had fresh precedent on this last year: https://us.motorsport.com/f1/news/alons ... /10391233/. Haas protest Alpine because Alonso was not black flagged for driving a damaged car in Austin. FIA give Alonso 30 second post race penalty. Alpine appealed because Haas submitted the protest too late. Alpine wins appeal because of this and Alonso penalty overturned, even though it was technically the FIA messing up in the first place.

A little background, concerning the Maranello team, concerns the use of the elements of the Power Unit. The SF-23s of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have in fact been replaced battery packs after the Sprint Race, in view of the Sunday Grand Prix, as later confirmed in the post-race by the Team Principal, Frederic Vasseur. The choice was necessary because during the 'mini-race' both suffered some technical problems. The batteries have been shipped to Maranello and will undergo a careful analysis in the next few hours to understand if they will be reusable, with a temporary malfunction as is believed, or will be lost. Specifically, Carlos Sainz suffered a small problem during the first lap, while Charles Leclerc struggled with energy when relaunching after the Safety Car.

Potential grid penalties if energy stores cannot be salvaged.

a good news, they could replace all of units in pu before las Vegas, even at cost of penalty. because cota, Mexico, inter may be very difficult to SF-23, but they have opportunity in Las Vegas with powerful PU

It was a huge mistake that Sainz didn't went in the race as head of strategic department. Ferrari could had even won the race :) but for certain Russell wouldn't had gone unpunished.

Any new parts coming in the last 5 races ? They should have gotten the 2024 car in the last 3 races and actually run it to get real race data and make sure correlation is accurate
