Never, especially not as it was an extra lap Max requested himself. I think he knew how close it would be on reds and wanted To try and find the absolute limits.

"The last lap wasn't great but we are still on pole, so the car is working well," said Verstappen. "Today should be great, so many teams quite close. Normally in the race we are quite okay, but this track is quite demanding. Tyre management is quite key around here. It's going to be tough."

Did anyone else think Perez's lap was impressive for a used tire??

He'll never recover :)

In all seriousness, that was a productive session?

On the medium, the car looked fine in the low speed. Car was finally stopping and turning in T1.

Once he got the soft, he did struggle again in T1 but it wasn't as bad as yesterday. There are no soft tires for the rest of the weekend so I'd say they have prepared for the correct tires.
well, S1 in Q3 wasn't anything to write home about, but it was enough. Thankfully softs are done for for the weekend.

That was due to the driveability issue. Traction out of turn 1.

Looks like McLaren are the main challenge on Sunday unless Hamilton is sandbagging / cooked his tyres.

Pace looked good

Looks fine to be honest. Max was easy in the 1.39s going a 39.1 on the penultimate lap, with basically everyone except Norris in the 40s.

Just about surviving T1 and he has all race to pick them off.

It will be between ham/nor/ver. Hamilton and Norris have near identical pace. Norris overtook Sainz on lap 10 and was 10.2s behind hamilton at that stage, at the end of the race it was 9.3s between them. Unclear how much they were pushing.

Putting Max as the favourite tomorrow now, a win is not too far out of reach.

The most important thing is not losing too much time behind the Ferraris which are just insane on the straights. Norris's sprint race was destroyed behind Sainz. They can't afford to give up 10 seconds to race leader tomorrow. It will be much more difficult to win.

Norris likely hurt his tires a bit fighting Sainz with several failed attempts so I do think he has a little bit more in it but not enough in a time trial.

Also I couldn't help but notice that Mercedes is simply helpless on the straights here which will be an advantage for overtaking both tomorrow.

and finally, to have the car lifted like a monster truck and run at such a pace relative to the others is just crazy.

They mightve discovered this setup window when investigating the Singapore disaster

The car is quicker than anyone in slow speed by a significant margin here and still on pace in the straights whilst being marginally behind in the high speed. Feels like suuurely this setup should've worked at Singapore
