Improvements needed overnight. Ham says car is "night and day" different to Austin & difficult to extract performance. But Toto reckons a clean lap would have already put them top 3 so the performance is there..

F1.com is putting Merc up to second based on what we have seen so far so if they make an overnight improvement then they would be looking quite good. Qualifying is very important. Difficult to pass here.

Which is also what formu1a.uno suggested - that Merc's plank wear was more than Ferrari's (0.2mm)

illogical for anyone not to dispute 0.05mm if it was true.

“One hears of an excess of two millimeters.”

I couldn’t be less direct in a statement if I tried; laughably non-committal.

Hamilton sounds like a drama queen sometimes. All cars dont feel great at this track. They never do. The car being good relative to the others is what matters. Already im not seeing the big top speed delta compared to Max’s Redbull. Things look promising imo.

Does AmuS have a source or is this just the "i hear rumors in the paddock"?

Amus is a fairly reliable source, especially regarding Mercedes. You aren't going to see them name their source for obvious reason...but they are quite close to Mercedes. I would hesitate to dismiss it out of hand. There are some things you can't do as a reporter which is why things are written as they are.

Does it matter? Out it out you cannot get anymore disqualified than disqualified. There are no shades of failing the test it is still a fail
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

No source needed. The plank by regulation can wear 1mm. The plank has to be 10 +/- 0.2mm when new and 9.0 at the end of the event. So a plank can wear 1.2mm if a team looks for the most thickness at the start. So the merc plank was very likely worn more than 1.0mm. But atleast 0.9mm if the plank was 9.8 to start.

I feel like Merc will be stronger tomorrow but unfortunately it will be chasing Max home once he passes the Ferraris

It will be very hard to overtake Perez/Ricciardio and the Ferrari + Max. All these cars could go to >=350kph today

Again Im afraid qualy will compromise Merc. But I think it should be a good race

Lewis is probably getting a +5 place penalty. He didn't lift for the yellows in Q1 through T1/T2
