Second lap looked alright, the pace progression was normal through the sessions for RB. It was just Ferrari dropped their times massively in Q3, so really out of nowhere. Merc looking off.

Looks like the track performance tapered off at the end. Hardly anyone improved. Merc looked like they egged themselves by waiting too long to switch to new softs. Had they done so at the same time as the others they probably would've been top 3

I think the track was at its best when Ferrari set their first times if you consider that many cars like mercs swapped onto new softs for their 2nd runs and didnt improve much. That's the risk max pays by being cautious on his bankers with the rb19

It's not guaranteed that the situations are analogous. In Alonso's case he never exited the pitlane (crossed white line) and in Max's case he's never stationary. Russell is the one in larger trouble as he was stationary with his front wheels over the white line

Yes. I remember Ricciardo beating Max to pole in Mexico. Didn’t he prevent Max being the youngest F1 pole sitter or some such? I remember a murderous looking young Max being stood behind Ricciardo during the post race interviews…

Aren't you jumping the gun? Your post comes 14 minutes after the session ended. These investigations typically involve summons to the stewards by driver and team manager. It was made clear that the investigations would be completed after the session.
