They seem to have been pretty respectful of the car—surprised the FW end plate stayed with the car. 😂

It's insane how bad this car is in race trim

I have no idea what MB did to be so much slower than us.

A) There are laps were the pace difference between Sainz and Lando is well bellow half a second.
B) Even Vasseur said Sainz's race was not representative of the true pace of the car.

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

A) Very few.
B) Lec would have probably be around 0.25s faster at best

Avg gap from McL was around 0.7s which in a track like Interlagos is an eternity

Why didn't Sainz go faster then to try and catch Stroll?

No pace. He reported it immediately after the start of the last stint that the tyres didn't feel good.

Lec was going to be more than 0.25s faster. Lec was running the more optimal cooling setup & his advantage to Sainz in the past few races has been larger than that in race trim, not to mention the sprint at Brazil. Since the Suzuka upgrade Lec's usual pace advantage over Sainz in race has returned.

I would say had Lec started the race he'd have been 4-5 tenths quicker given his normal pace advantage, clean air, a fresh set of softs for Leclerc saved that Sainz didn't have, and the optimal cooling setup

Being 0.25s faster per lap in a short track like Interlagos is huge. 4-5 tenths quicker on average would have been absolutely crazy.

He had the optimal cooling setup, would've had clean air, his advantage over Sainz was already large in the sprint, and had a fresh set of softs that Sainz didn't have. I don't see why it wouldn't have been

Avg gap in the sprint was 0.244s according to this.

Yeah, with a better cooling setup i suppose a 0.3s gap in free air was possible.

why was Leclerc's cooling setup optimized and Sainz's not? In the pre race interview, Vasseur confirmed that the rules allowed them to make changes.

Less dirty air starting in P2. They were right as they had perfect free air by not starting :D

Sainz had the best cooling for running in traffic. They assumed Sainz would not be in clean air whilst they assumed Leclerc would.. Perhaps optimal is not the best word. So leclerc would benefit from clean air but doubly so because not only does this mean less stress for tyres/brakes etc they can go lighter on cooling and be lower drag
