Since it looks like Perez will also be driving for RBR next year, they must be confident that they have an incredibly fast car for next year. Horner even admitted that Albon was not good enough for RBR at the time, but now he is (heard in the podcast).

RBR's sim driver, Rudy van Buren, was recently asked whether he had already driven the RB20.

“So you haven't driven the RB20 yet?”
"I don't think I said that, I didn't say that ." (while laughing)

"How did you feel with the RB20?"
“Hmm, how are we going to talk cryptically around this?”
"There are developments and I will stick to that."

You can choose the subtitles in English or whatever.

Simple fact is Danny Ric dug his own grave, tuck tail and ran away from Verstappen even after being given everything he wanted. This is why I cant feel any pity or want him back in the car at all. To go to renault of all places just confirms it wasnt about and engine or the team or anything else, it was only because he knew he wont be able to handle verstappen in the long (and short) term and didn't want to get exposed, his ego couldn't bare it at the time. He's now much more humble, but also doesn't have his former speed and clout. Horner and whole RB are being very merciful and accepting to even get him back to AT.

RB really struggled to find anyone competent to drive at Alpha Tauri and a broken Daniel Ricciardo fell into their lap. I do think Horner has snookered Daniel a bit. He's going to be at AT longer than he thinks.

With all the whispers of drivers like Norris or Leclerc being offered seats for '25, Daniel would only be the third or 4th pick.

I have a feeling, he might not want to go to RB with Max being at the peak of his powers. Daniel appears to be too short on confidence when you see him in races now. He is living by his races and doesn't appear to be the old Daniel. With such a psychological situation, he might not do any better than Perez. He might even be happy to stay at AT and see his time through. If he goes to RB and gets beaten the way Perez has been, then he would probably be even worse than he is now. Deep rooted psychological issues are hard to overcome in any competitive sport and Daniel appears to have compiled a lot of them.

Fair to expect we won't see pictures of RB20 until Bahrain testing

I would suggest that it is too early for there to be anything concrete escaping into the media??

If true than it seems like a high risk/reward kind of thing, could backfire massively like Mercedes' zero pods.

I speculated something similar previously

nevertheless, they've just won 3 titles in a row. 3 titles in 5 years wouldn't be a bad record if the '24 car misses the mark. There will be a reset for '26 again.

Even if they completely mess up the RB20, they could probably return the the RB19 and start bringing some updates to the old girl instead and still have a chance to fight for the championship.

Does seem a bit early for stuff like this to be coming out.

I wonder if someone hasn't been listening a little too hard to Eddie Jordan.

It is early, but RB was probabaly by far the first team to start really working on the 2024 car. Because the limited windtunnel time, the development has to be spread out over a larger time frame. The massive gap to the oposition has given them that opportunity as well.

Mercedes has done the same for 8 years. Let others catch up at the end of the season when those teams were still upgrading their car, while Mercedes already turned most attention the next year and blew them away a the start of the next season.

I don't know if this from today's Autosport was already posted.
BTW, Max flew during the night from Brasilia to Milton Keynes and was yesterday the whole day in the simulator for the Las Vegas circuit.

Horner clarifies “intention” remark over Perez F1 future

Nov 10, 2023, 12:58 PM

Asked by Autosport in Brazil if there was anything significant in his choice of the word “intention”,
Horner made it clear there was no doubt that Perez would be with the team next year – and it was only circumstances
beyond the team’s control that would mean he would not be.

“I am absolutely confident and clear that Checo will be our driver next year,” explained Horner.

“Now, if he was injured or something like that, there are circumstances beyond our control.
But the clear plan and therefore the clear intention is that he will continue.

“We're planning to continue. We have announced the AlphaTauri drivers, we have our Red Bull racing drivers.
That is how we intend to go racing in 2024.”
