don't they give Q3 runners an extra set of soft?
no, one set of softs is not allowed to be used before Q3, but it's part of those (4) normally available.

Why is the Williams so quick in S1 compared to other cars? Williams is not known for their cornering.

Sargeant was quick because he run off in T1. Perez was fastest in Q1, Norris and Max are fastest in Q2 there.

Hamilton out and 11th. Same old setting up for tomorrow and will converge with Russell in the race?

Hamilton improved by barely a tenth, Russell found 3 tenths compared to Q1.

only Verstappen has two new sets left for Q3 indeed now. Norris, Perez and Piastri have a 2 lap old set from their aborted Q2 attempt, at least.

Mercedes will be superior on Sunday too. Non event really
:wtf: They are not even superior on Saturday...

A strong P4 from Russell sure, but nothing exceptional compared to Leclerc's Ferrari.

Riccardo is a pale shadow. Tsunoda is clearly faster than him, except that Tsunoda has had either bad luck in races or made mistakes.

11-11 at Mercedes turns out to be very misleading statistics. Because It doesn't mean their drivers were equal or very close to each other, extracting most of the car in qualifying. It just shows both of them under-performed half of the times(more or less), because on most occasions it wasn't actually close between them. No, not good enough for the best driver pairing on the grid.

Russell’s had a bad year, and Lewis has been AWOL for many Q’s, or prioritising race setup

Verstappen's car was beautifully hooked up on that banker lap (except where Russell made it awkward in T4). It is so nice to watch a car turn so well.

Incredible performance by Verstappen again. Best qualifier on the grid by far, shows his quality again. His ability to be on it and put the car on the limit right away from the very first lap in Q1, utilizing fewer sets of brand new tires to proceed in Q3 has been massively underrated. It was close, as predicted, and would've been even closer if all top performers were able to save 2 sets for Q3.
