It sounds like it wasn't just sending parts to Cologne, but they they had an entirely outsourced test department based there which would have been costly on top of all the other logistics and of course the time wasted.

This is worth a lot in development and does highlight just how much of an issue it really was, more than any of us could imagine really. I certainly did (incorrectly) suggest that the new Wind Tunnel was not a golden bullet, but I don't think anyone would have thought it would have saved so much money.

And it really does add the air of success given the development the team achieved last year with that handicap for half of it.

Don't forget they now have a rolling road in the new wind tunnel at MTC.
They couldn't test yaw properly in Cologne, the reason for their slow speed struggles.
Stella said that slow speed is being fixed for the 2024 car IIRC a few months back.

The Toyota windtunnel had a rolling road. I'm not sure if I got what you meant.

Rolling Road will allow the wheels to spin and simulate uneven track surface to allow more accurate aero testing but you are talking about pitch and yaw control which is different. But you are right in that it is a new area that we can test in the tunnel.

I believe Ferrari signed an agreement with another beer company early last year and had to wait for contracts to finish before any announcement. Turned out to be Peroni who were sponsoring Aston Martin at the time so Estrella knew for a while they needed to find a new team to sponsor regardless of Sainz which you quite correctly knew had a strong connection with Estrella

Absolutely not. Age gap alone is reason enough. Lando is obviously a better driver, a less emotional driver, a more consistent driver, and still has more potential to get faster. Carlos got faster in his early 20’s like Lando has been doing. I also see Lando as more of a reasonable team player, whereas Carlos is not as ameniable. Carlos is now at his peak if not a year or two past it. 28 is usually when HGH starts to take a dump. Biology is merciless.

I’ve no problem with Carlos, he’s a likable guy and definitely fast. Deserves his Ferrari drive for sure. But he’s not Lando fast, isn’t 24, and isn’t getting any faster.

no. obvious reasons have already been discussed but I think a factor that hasn't is the different driving style Carlos has. I don't know the exact details but from what I've seen and read Ferrari seem to have a problem of Carlos and Charles wanting very different things in the car, and we seem to have the exact opposite at McLaren with Lando and Oscar wanting very similar things in the car. IIRC it was Karun Chandok who explicitly confirmed this suspicion in an interview with Sky. I see no reason to disrupt the harmonious direction the team is moving in right now and pivot to someone (if the rumours are to be believed) has been a factor in taking Ferrari down the wrong development path from 22 to 23.
