It is likely they want to have clean slate for new season, new sponsors, livery, etc.

A long article with and about Lando: https://theathletic.com/5193111/2024/01 ... s-mclaren/
.
F1’s Lando Norris is looking for greatness on track — and normalcy in life

Madeline Coleman

In the world of Formula One, normal is rarely viable. But it comes in flashes with Lando Norris.

Inside of a papaya-clad hospitality building, the McLaren driver lounges casually in his seat, regardless of if he’s scrolling through his phone or speaking with the media. He’ll banter back and forth with his competitors after a podium finish, cracking jokes, making a tongue-in-cheek jab or two and speaking the occasional brutal truth about himself. He has a relaxed attitude about him, but with the understanding that he cares deeply about what matters to him: work, friends and family, to name a few.

Norris acts like a 24-year-old — albeit one who runs his own company and is a rising F1 star.

“Oh damn. Who’s Lando?” he mused when asked the question. “I’m just a guy who drives cars and just wants to enjoy life. No matter what the circumstance is, no matter where in the world I am or what I’m doing, I just want to spend time with my friends and have fun and laugh and giggle and create memories.”

I'm wondering if that was Marelli, who were a partner providing the cooling systems.

Seems like too prominent space for a technical partner. It either was not on the car (they just added a space prepared for an announcement) or it was something else.

Normally you do a tease after you've announced the launch date, no? Could McLaren have forgotten they haven't announced the launch, officially, at least?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

A little boring, but I think that has to do with the weight of the paint.

With all the 'new era' fan fair and everything I'm sort of surprised they're continuing with calling the car MCL38

Looks so incredibly boring, way too much black, i really hate this weight problem, causing many cars to be predominantly black

WHOA! That's a bold look. I love it. Also seems like a badass, no frills launch. WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!

PS: will be impossible to read driver numbers on the car though. Sigh. I think they will switch that Chrome out with Fluoro Blue into the European races

Only F1 could shoot itself in the foot to the point where it sabotages the joy and beauty of liveries that fans enjoy, because teams need to save that weight.

It looks okay, but very unexciting and as I say, limited by the need for weight save.

I hate where we’re at as a sport right now, haven’t enjoyed these new heavy boats with massive wheels and dull liveries at all.

Anyway, back to Macca- any reason for the early livery launch?? Unusual right?
