McLaren MCL38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Added both the reflection and released photo in a single image. Maybe it's just angles distorting things but I doubt the font would be changed in such a logical manner (to follow the curve of the side pod, etc).

Image distortion both the main chassis in not being aligned with image plane in camera, then specifically the reflection windows ? are not planar to that car, further away too in being planar to camera image recording site all make those lines compress, converge or diverge in final image. Think it's not showing anything of detail to be concerned with.

This is similar to when you point a camera upward at a tall building when standing near to it and get converging vertical lines.

Underwhelming pictures. Just looks like MCL60 with slightly smaller inlets and a new rear wing.

Could be, but at the same time, VELO on the rollhoop is not affected. And doesn't seem like the proportions of the car are distorted. To me it looks like the car in the reflection has sidepods which are more sculpted - which
seems like a logical thing the team would work on. It's not some bizarre thing. This in addition to what looks like blurring in the reflection point me toward thinking the car in photos is not the real car.

But who knows, hopefully we get some photos from the shakedown so we can eliminate one of the theories.

Looks similar to the new red bull sidepod inlet..Totally different from the render. Photos are hiding some details.

Its certainly something, as the support stay for the mirror has to connect to something and if you follow the curvature of the sidepod in that area and its width is reducing there's no sidepod to connect to. I wonder if RBR and Mclaren have happened upon the overbite intake style over the winter (if the grainy RB20 speculation from the grainy shots are accurate)

If Mercedes continues with overbite then it would be RB/McL/Merc vs Aston/Ferrari
