Alpine does a similar thing to their waterslide fence. Theirs is not 'straight' like AM or MCL but has that bulge

Very interesting! Even if I personally don't understand how the combination of vertical and horizontal intake is supposed to increase the high pressure zone and was rather afraid of the opposite, but that's why Kyle was an aerodynamicist at Mercedes and not me! If this is the case, it makes a lot of sense, but I'm surprised that nobody else has thought of it yet...

Ok im completely out on a limp here. Could they open up the panel shown by jagunx51, just next to/behind the halo and let air in for to move the flow to a more desired location, the central diffuser, and combined with scarbs drawing, maybe they exit the vertical inlet flow there also. Could there be advantages in mixing those two, would the upper help pull the air from below faster?

I also think this is a possible position for the s-duct outlet. They put outlets there before.

The main inlet just looks like last years one, with the lip flipped 180 degrees upside down. Remember, the inlet is actually much further back than the lip, which is why it appears hidden.

Gary Anderson has some Photographs of the side-pods:

If you look at the floor it's the exact same one from last year down to the fixing locations. For the sidepods the mounting fixings and periphery interfaces are again the same, the mirrors are carry over, the halo interfaces are carry over.

To me this is still very much a mule from last year. They've replaced the modular leading edge of the sidepod so now it's upside down compared to last year, but even where the alleged vertical inlet is there's no accommodating change forward of it.

I know they'll try to have commonality with previous cars due to budget cap. But I think this is a bit of a bodge at this stage. We've seen it before with other teams trying to cobble something representative together.

I'm that old, that Mercedes' 2022 more or less triangle shaped sidepods reminded me of the 1991 Lambo 291

Regarding the nose, it just looks like some version of the RB19 nose with the added vanity panel. Note the exact same bending downwards towards the end of the yellow area on the nose.

I am inclined to agree. Gary Anderson who was at the launch suggests something more radical at the nose may appear at Bahrain testing. The panel looks very makeshift and there is no cooling ducts on the nose like there usually are.

He also states that RB failed front crash tests and then would have a relatively uninteresting and long nose seems counterintuitive. Now Anderson isn't the highest authority but it's another voice of suspicion about the nose.
I immediately thought of this..

Would something like this even be legal under the current regulations?
I’m going to say no otherwise I’m sure somebody would have already come up with it 2 years in

looking at this, im unsure, if the nosecone goes all the way, it looks almost like an add on panel, the front part, on this picture

Are those marks left by the rain, going into the vertical inlet? Are we seeing the air flow going in? Although I find this odd, they would probably have thoroughly cleaned the car before the presentation, how else do you explain those "stripes" there?

I think that's just part of how the floor connects to that part of the car, see here:

Aren't we reliving '22, where the whole forum went bonkers over an illusive inlet? I remember the majority here pointing to an off-color piece of carbon, speculating a porous panel intake.

If I really, really, really have a hard look, the "verticale intake" looks like nothing more than a Black painted panel to connect the old floor/tub to the mule sidepods. Especially as one would expect perspective to make it wider in a front shot and it just doesnt.

On top of the sidepod in the reveal there was a clear divet where one would expect the "top" inlet. I suspect it was just covered with a big decal that sagged a bit under the Hot lights.

They might even really have had that small bottom intake for silverstone just to make the cooling work. If they are focussen on floor and suspension, how the inlet is treated may be a minor factor.

The loss of the nose inlet is explaied by the rule change to add more drivers cooling. The inlets are now on top of the nose.
