Red Bull RB20

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If you look at the the red bull (logo on the airbox spine) then compare the real RB20 running at Silverstone and the public launch car......the image is substantially different between the two.

Unless that cover changed, they are not the same car.

Those two still images appear on page 19 and 20 of this thread for comparison.

Can the public launch be just a "studio" chassis? Just a mock up while the real one that was running simply wasn't presented.

i think you are dead right about the engine cover the bull is vastly different, also the bottpm of the sidebod looks like it has a bigger undercut. again the car we see in bahrain will be substantially updated from this very early spec show car.

They are in a testing phase. I don't think it's worth overthinking it. It's very likely that there will be multiple configurations of the car tested in Bahrain so they have cobbled together a car with what they needed for shakedown, and perhaps cobbled it together slightly differently for the launch.

I see what you mean, but I think the shape of the car looks the same, they just raised the red graphic of the bull higher so its face isn't hidden in the studio shots. But there is also a black camera fin on the side in the yellow part on the Silverstone picture that is gone in the studio.

The engine cover, but not the graphic. The bull has no tail in one of them.

The only change i see is the bull on top is not the same and the car on track has number 11 while the other has 1

Yeah, to me it looks like they raised the graphic of the red bull for marketing purposes. Shape of the cover looks the same. They probably didn't want the head of the bull to be hidden in that gully.

in this image im pretty sure i can make out the horizontal inlet that is present in the 3d model https://rb20-model-viewer.glitch.me/

you can see the dark retangular patch with a round outer edge under the lip and that is consistant in other photos and the inlet on model as well (letterbox with rounded outside edge) so although this is a show car I think it was also viewed in the silverstone filming day pics and was spotted in the speculation thread and illustrated by @Giando https://ibb.co/4swsHPy this could be implimented with a ferrari style s-duct but I think this is as good as we're gonna do till bahrain

My thoughts are....why go to such extent in exclusion during running the real thing in shakedown at Silverstone....only then to put those very details in front of journalistic scrutiny where they could effectively put their hands on it.

Given previous "launches" involving more or less livery, then a reasonable facsimile for the invited launch factory guest is more than sufficient to carry that out.

Likely the real chassis went straight to shipping for Bahrain to meet that schedule, the display one being irrelevant, details to analyse from that the same.

Despite the access at the launch event to the display model, the photos that came out of that event were very poor. There’s still so much unknown and for what reason I am not sure. High res photos of anything. It’s like they were all given 0.5 megapixel cameras before the event.

The pronounced forward sweep of the front upper forward suspension arms is visible as I alluded to a few days ago. I've stitched together a couple of frames from one of the videos posted and highlight the sweep angle in green relative to the y axis in yellow.

Front suspension: The upper forward arm attachment point appears to be kicked back further. It should look relatively severe in the coming photos. It’s now so far back that it’s in approximately the same area where pushrods intersect the chassis on pushrod equipped cars; if so, this detail would not be easily duplicated on a front pushrod equipped car. Their front suspension design has been on a different planet for three seasons now and no fans or press have been able to say definitively if it’s an aero concept or a kinematics concept.

What's the target of big tunnels on the side on the engine cover?
