Looks like they're getting ready for a racing simulation. Red Bull always does this by devoting the first day of testing to long distances.

Too early for racing simulations, today will be:

Aero Correlation
Setup a Baseline
Change of setup analysis: (changes to ride heights, suspension settings, differential settings, etc)
Changes to engine modes (deployment, torque settings, etc)
Driving to a lap time, impact of changes and car behavior under different fuel loads
Back to baseline probably to validate impact of setting changes
Maybe some aero parts testing

I would be very surprised if there is anything resembling a performance run in the first day… Today is all about systems check, stressing the car / parts, learning about the new platform

Piastri is out doing constant speed run at the moment. 100 kph at one straight, 160 kph at the other and pit.

I am always frustrated how McLaren seems to take it slow on day 1, only two out laps so far I think.

On a positive note - Verstappen is not on rails at the moment.

Where did you see the speed on the runs. I’m on F1 TV and live timing and can’t see it anywhere.

Also is it possible to follow individual drivers for the test or do they only have the general feed?

In the F1 live timing you have tabs at the top (Leaderboard, Driver Tracker, Commentary). Pick Driver tracker and then you can see the map of the circuit, drivers on it and by picking new tabs you can see telemetry (speed, brake, throttle, gear ...).

Haven't seen driver cameras so far, but you can at least look at telemetry.

They removed most of the aero rakes - but there is still one in front of the rear wing.

Buxton saying that the team said they did not hit targets. This is not true. No one said they did not hit targets. They said they have more things in the pipeline that will be brought up when they are ready. There is a big difference.

Palmer also saying McLaren is never positive - so he is not worried about those statements (which are not true). Obviously Palmer did not read or watch interviews made. The team was extremely positive this preseason. They fully expect to be able to fight for wins.
