Alpine A524

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting front wing end plate, early Haas style waves.

There is an interesting bodywork between the exhaust pipe & the centerline cooling system / above the inboard suspensions.

Very interesting thread from The_F1_Whisperer on twitter, shorter gearbox ratios this year on the A524:

Interesting. All teams who opted for the big undercuts 'simply' raised their radiators, Alpine did that too, but kept the old outwashy undercut.
The inside of the undercut looks emptier too. It seems Alpine moved 2 of the 3 engine water and gas tanks elsewhere.

So why would you redesign & raise the rads like this & create so much empty space underneath them (and a bit of space in front) if not to create a bigger undercut..?

Image

A first glimpse of the internal bodywork, which looks more substantial & seems to cover everything, right down to the rear inboard suspension.

Harmann did say at launch that Alpine tried again to make sure the car internals gave them flexibility for the aero and didn't hold them back. If they suspect they might attempt heavier undercuts, then this would be in line with that.

This was actually an idea I thought for an aggressive undercut sidepod. It's clear they can do that on this platform.

Interesting platform , space for bigger undercut or have the air move more easy through the internals

Well there is hope that it's just a baseline to be ready for the tests and they have much more coming in the pipe for the next GPs, the fact that the real car was shown early for the reveal might be a good sign.
Last year they brought updates for the 1st or 2nd GP, so maybe modified sidepods are on the way, it seems that the internal aero has been a strong focus this winter.

Apparently Alpine has a new Front Wing compared to pre-season testing.

Anyone has seen pictures of that? Apparently it's mostly a gurney but would love a confirmation.

They inverted the rollhoop intakes: now the middle intake provides air for the centerline cooling rads while the lateral inlets feed the compressor... a strange change.
The compressor duct itself (blue arrow) looks strange & complex, it's a double duct, since it comes from 2 inlets, but it seems to split again in 2 other ducts...

Good catch.

Also amongst the positive notes, even in the hotter FP1 yesterday, Alpine ran with rather little openings on the side louvres. They appear to have indeed made some progress with their cooling compared to last year.
