Can someone explain to me why they’re faster on C1 than C2 and faster on C2 than C3? What would be the reason to do higher fuel loads on softer tires and vice versa?
It's a race sim, fuel load goes down as the race sim goes on, every new tire is faster than the older tire from before plus there's less fuel. To hide their performance they went with harder compounds as the race sim went on instead of the more typical "other way around".
Gotcha, that's interesting. Thanks!

looking good.. who's got redbull times
RedBull didn't do a race sim (nobody did but Merc) and that looks like a race sim. A high 1.35 on last stint is about 1.5-2s slower than where they should be, possibly due to C1 tire that is too slow for a last stint.
C1 was the choice of most drivers for final stint in the race last year in Bahrain.

Fair enough, well that's a good time on C1 anyway.

In fact, the Merc does not quite reflect its place in the final standings of the first day, since it seems to me that the car was always very heavily fueled, did not use any fuel and behaved quite stably, especially in the evening, the car was planted very low and behaved very stably!

in fact, faster than 0.5 you need to look at the average time and it’s about 1 second

Yes. This is from race (Max). 3rd stint on C1. A bit misleading as he was comfortably ahead and managing the race. Not exactly racing.

Judging from what we've seen so far, is there hope?
Hope at what? WDC? No hope
Hope to beat Macca/Farrari? Likely no.

I know you can go onboard and see the car looks stable now, but when you consider how slow the car is going relative to the Macca and RB its no surprise the car looks stable.

When pushed it is a clear mess, and when you look at the mini sectors of the fastest laps for NOR and VER you can very clearly see they are no where near pushing it, so by rights Merc are nowhere near pushing it but still showing signs of poor drivability, just the same as the last 2 years.

It does not look good at all.
Bang on, unfortunately

To expect Allison to come in from the cold, and cook up an entirely new concept, and be on the money, was always a long shot.

Think Merc go backwards this year, given McL won’t be starting from the back this year. Third or fourth in the WCC, most likely the best outcome this year.

The team ballsed up this regulation. End of.
im going to save this post until the end of the year. lets see who will eat their socks.

I find these data interesting.
Less time on full throtle, more time on brakes, wider lines throught corners, less time accelerating.
Would sugest more lift and coast, lower engine settings...
Not that bad!
What do you think?
If flying were the language of man, soaring would be its poetry.
It's all about technology!
When you go fast, do not hesitate to go faster!
