Albon gave up the ghost a little when watching the Sainz C4 lap saying that it was interesting the the Red Bull and Ferrari don't seem to be affected by wind and can turn when they want.

EDIT: Sainz into the 29's...

29.9! Already 2 tenths off of pole time for last year(albeit a step softer tyre)

Leclerc confirmed our initial impression.

- Car is a massive step from the SF 23
- The base of the SF 24 is miles better because the car is behaving according to expectations
- They know which direction to follow while last year they had no --- clue

RB is probably ahead in terms of pure pace which was to be expected

I'm not totally convinced about how much quicker RB will be. My guess is ~2-3 tenths at the start of the season which would be a step up from last season. I think we can hope to fight for wins after first major upgrades - note that this is based more on feeling than data as of now ;)

If only the lead team decided to pivot to this concept during 2022...

2 years later, they seem to be back where they started in terms of understanding the car... Such a shame Vigna meddled with initial SF-23 concept.

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Unfortunately we lost 1.5 years of development. This makes me so angry. Imagine if they changed the chassis and gearbox for 2023, they would have been able to focus only on aero performance this winter.

They had an interview with Leclerc on the Italian broadcast just now.
He talked about the situation and appeared really candid about it. What he said and the impression I got from his words:
- The starting 2023 car was an absolute disaster and they had no idea what was wrong with it or how to fix it. From his words it sounded like a nightmare scenario.
- He sounds lukewarm about the 2024 car. My impression is that he sounds satisfied with the way it drives but not satisfied with how fast it is. He stressed Red Bull looks definitely faster. He is positive about the fact that, unlike the beginning of last year, they know what they have to do to make the car faster.

Good news. It’s good to hear that the behavior of the car is way better than before and the drivers (especially Leclerc) seem to be happy.
That’s a solid starting point and the team will finally be able to develop the car without being left scratching their heads because of fundamental problems.

I have to correct myself, part of the blame for 23 struggles falls onto Binotto for cutting 22 development before TD-39 came. I can't remember them mentioning they specifically tested 10mm higher car on purpose in 22, just to see how the floor and diffuser would react. Massive opportunities thrown out the window. I don't think they'd need gearbox changes last year, just chassis.

It all sounds like the perfect set up for a massive disappointment on race day … I’d wait for that before celebrating any improvements

They didn't set any expectations in terms of performance.

Leclerc just said that he thinks RB is going to be the benchmark once again.

Lol Leclerc absolutely hates the SF 23.

He said to Sky Italy that you didn't have a clue of what would happen in a corner (i.e. losing the front or the rear) and that everything would change in the next corner and so on :D

The aero of that car was all over the place.

Shows you how good of a driver Leclerc is. He changed his driving style to adapt to the limitations of the SF-23. With a predictable car he can only get better.

Car looks good. Faster than RB19 for sure.
