My prediction for them is 6th this season and thats in line with what I predicted by the end of last season. I think they'll be in a fight with Williams for that.
That is way too pessimistic imo, no need to go to the other extreme. Now it is clear the car is lacking somewhat but fighting with Williams is too much... you need to see their car

The car doesn't seem planted at all.
In fact, it looks horrible.
I'm confused. All reports up until how have commented on how well balanced the car is?

vibes from Fernando Alonso and interview from Dan Fallows suggest they are not very confident with the car
perhaps 4th fastest car on the grid behind Redbull, Ferrari and McLaren

You surely haven't been watching the broadcast, otherwise you wouldn't be asking silly questions.

both alonso and stroll have done purple 1st sector but then 2nd was poor, we need to see whether that was due to higher engine mode or lower downforce setup, but it looks the former

I try not to be pessimistic or optimistic. Its my realistic guess which of course could be wrong. But I know AM and especially Fernando arent the types to hold back and sand bag. They were consistently leading the timing in last year's testing. They are also like open book. Everybody knew they had something last year. This year is just the opposite. I also noticed Fernando's public campaigning for a seat in the pre season. Just putting 2+2 together.

Yes don't get me wrong, for the most part I agree, it makes sense.

Based on fast lap the car looked like it was running heavier with higher engine mode. Would explain the high speedtrap & disproprtionate performance across Sector 1 / 2

For me is the latter.
He is doing similar lap setups. Outlap push lap cool down lap and another push lap. I don't think he has any benefit to up his engine between those runs.
I think he is playing with setup and downforce levels.
For example in his run that he did purple 1st sector, he did almost the exact overall time from just before that he hadn't done a purple 1st sector meaning that what he gained in 1st sector he lost it l8r in the lap.
For me that indicates setup changes rather higher engine mode.

Also another thing i noticed is that in all his runs, in his second flying lap of the tire set, he is loosing around 1 second to his first flying lap of the set.

My impression so far (based on absolutely nothing) is that AMR24 is better/faster than AMR23 in the second half of 2023, but worse than AMR23 in the first half of 2023.
