The issue is that the comp here is Leclerc who also did a middle stint on C1, and was on average one second faster than this stint from Piastri. Looking at engine modes and top speeds they look comparable. This is why I fear for McLaren.

Looking at the fact that there is no deg it is highly likely that they could have lapped quite a bit faster though.

You have the engine modes & tops speeds for all these laps?

According to Formu1auno Ferrari's race stints "hid less" than other teams

Well its possible McLaren are trying to hide their pace a bit then. It would certainly fit in with the uber secretive launch this year, they haven't wanted to give anything away
If this is the case, then I can’t say exactly how things are in racing mode, but on one fast lap in the first sector, Oscar at least lost 0.1-0.2 tenths of a second.

Looking at all three sectors, Oscar would lose about 0.1 second to Max in the first sector. In the second sector, Oscar also loses 0.1 seconds. And we drove through the third sector the same way. Overall I would say that on one fast lap the difference is 0.2 seconds just based on the test results.

I was posting just because I don't understand the talk around the laptimes being up and down, they seem pretty well measured to me.

In terms of times, the fact that those times didn't go down I found interesting. It'd be worth looking at the laps to see how much on throttle time was required for each, to see if there is a trend for on throttle time going up in the stint.

The more the tires get worn, the less lift and coast and the less relaxing on the straight you might do. So a useful measure of how much time we had in the bank and how much deg we got was how much more did we have to work the car at the end to keep the lap times at the same point. And then compare it to others doing their C1 laps.

The amount of fuel in the tanks, the use of a DRS wing, or vice versa, constant driving with a closed wing. Even these two parameters could be enough to make a big difference in tempo.

They never use DRS on race sims. If used at all, it would have been 1 lap to overtake someone in the way but generally anything that looks like a race stint, is a race stint without DRS.

F1-Tempo has all the speeds. The modes looks similar for those middle stints, wouldn't expect any major time differences due to that.

I have nothing against it. In this case, the amount of fuel in the tanks is of great importance.

It is if the pace is genuine. It’s really not that hard to hide 1 sec of pace. We see it all the time.

Piastri and Norris said they are a good chunk off Ferrari and miles away from RB. They may have reserves, but I don't think that's going to put them at Ferrari or RB's pace.
