Gary Anderson pace analysis

At the front I’m pretty sure we will see Red Bull followed closely by Ferrari, which will be joined occasionally by Mercedes and McLaren, with Aston Martin nipping at their heels, then a bit of a gap.

Looking at relative times in S1 vs S2 and speedtrap numbers, it looks like they ran heavy in quali sims but perhaps higher on engine than a few others. And Alonso didn't do a race simulation so hard to judge their race pace.

Aston Martin Three Day test Program was very different to everyone else and it has to to be studied.
Day 1 - Higher downforce (Not Monaco high but more wing)
Day 2 - Medium downforce
Day 3 - Lower downforce (Not Monza low but less wing)
Morning session was done with lower engine mode than evening session.

So basically they took three days to analyse the car's speed and tyre degradation at different downforce set-ups.

The aim was to get the same laptimes and low tyre degradation's no matter the set-up so that they can get the car working at all tracks, which was the aim this year. They had a set target of 1:32 for high speed run and 1:37 for race pace for each car, based on engine modes. (no idea if they ran heavier fuel load or did standard fuel load like last year(ran what they usually would run in free practice))

Are there any good telemetry comparisons between the Day 3 of 2023 and 2024?
Perhaps the test program was similar with Alonso.

Obviously we don’t know fuel loads and engine modes. But seems like the car is similar to last year where they can push hard on the harder compound.

Alonso said that car is good but podium is not possible.

Unfortunately I see much less podium than last year but maybe a car that evolves in a good way and maybe a win.

Me thinks, Alonso will officially be putting his name into the MER lottery hat soon. Iirc, he hasn't signed that long-term AMR contract yet because he has been waiting to test the new AMR and watch the W15 perform for a few races.

God help us all if Lance is then considered the #1 driver.

We all remember that last year car wasn't as fast during quali as everyone hoped for but race pace and especially tyre degradation was phenomenal. Based on everything I saw I truly think that Aston was fully focused on their plan during test. There was no glory runs or anything like that, they weren't interested in showing everyone their full potential, which is a good thing.

really really good piece on amr24 over pre season testing. good information there. obviously needs translating when you read it. but its interesting
