All Im hoping is that the difference is not much cause if they managed to be outdeveloped by a whole second again Im not sure if they can repeat last years jump in performance.

On sone things, but also says the car has improved, and he believes they are near the front of the grid.

That headline makes the article seem a lot less positive...

Lando and Oscar note that there is more grip on the rear axle. This is already visible from the outside. I am sure this will allow us to better protect our tires during the race.

A fair analysis I think, akin to what many of us are feeling- downbeat but positive👍🏻

Lando Norris believes his McLaren team is still "a very long way behind Red Bull and a long way behind Ferrari" after Formula 1's Bahrain winter test.
To be fair, Lando seems to be a glass half empty kinda guy most of the time. I think he likes being surprised when things go well.

He seems quite positive about the car this year.
Lando Norris is confident that McLaren will start the new Formula 1 season in much stronger shape than they have in recent years.

...

However, after covering 1,775km over the three-day test in Bahrain this week – more than the team achieved in each of the previous two years – Norris says he is feeling “a lot better” about their situation leading up to the new season.

“I think the issues we’ve had over the last few years were just lack of preparation and knowledge of certain things,” Norris said. “This year I think we’ve been definitely a lot more prepared in every area, so I’m very happy about that.”

...

“The team have done a good job. I’m very happy with what they’ve done and plenty more things to come.”
Few more tidbits in the actual article.

I'd just wait for Qualy.

Well get three races to benchmark the car and then several teams bring their first upgrades, so then we start all over again and benchmark the cars...

Incidentally, the teams target for last year was to be a top 4 car. If we start in the top 4 we are on target still.

I just read on the car developement forum, that the race pace time that Piastri achieved were 0.3 s faster than the base Mcl60 from testing last year..and as we know that car was a dud so it makes me think that McLaren have a lot more performance on hand.

Oscar barely featured in DTS, even with his accomplishments as a rookie, sprint pole+win.... odd.

What is DTS ?

You can't compare like that at all. Anyone making that comparison is going down a dead end.

There were some laps in different circumstances that had similar times. We don't know how much we are holding back, but I'm sure it is a fair bit faster than last year. But it isn't the point, what is important is how quick we are compared to others this year.

What I did find interesting from my digging is that the race pace of Ferrari in the '23 Bahrain race was very similar to the long run pace in '23 Bahrain testing. Someone suggested they didn't hide much this year. They didn't hide much last year by the looks of it.

Season 6 was a lot better than s5 was. The only major issues with s6 was them screwing around with the chronological order of things.

Oh and completely ignoring Oscar’s sprint race win.
