Can someone remind me if teams still get to choose their tire allocation? Also, what tires do teams have left for the weekend?

I'm betting teams won't use hards during FP, they'll save both sets for the race(according to what Pirelli said last week there's no big difference between C1 and C2 in performance, but C1 probably can go longer and is more consistent).

Remains to be seen if they intend to do stint 1 on softs or mediums.

Also no, everyone gets the same sets.

C2 is a bad tyre. Everyone would prefer to do C3-C1-C1.

Do they have less tires? Everyone have exactly the same remaining. Last year was often a bit different.

Be interesting to see if Merc behaves the same today in FP3. Wouldn't be the first time where the characteristics of the car change and throw the setup off for either Lewis or George. Definitely excited for tomorrow's race, Max will win for sure, the question for this weekend will be by how much? And who will join him on the podium.

no, the rules are the same as always - or at least since the free choice was abandoned due to covid.

Last year no one really used the C2 either in the race...

...so combined with the information from the test, I guess everyone was fairly confident about their tire choices. Resulting in the same for everyone.

Having 4 sets of softs only for Qualifying could be tricky for some, though.

I think RB/Ferrari/Merc/McLaren/Aston all will be within 3 to 5 tenths in qualifying. I expect Verstappen to take pole with a laptime of 1.28.8.

In their FP2 race simulation stint on the same soft tyre, the times set on the 13th lap were:
HAM 1.37.4
VER 1.36.6 ... so the case is closed!
Important caveat: before that 13th lap, both drivers did a cool lap
Based on the following data could someone enlighten us with some info regarding the engine/ERS mode that both drivers were at that particular L20 (the 13th lap of their race simulation)?

Everyone figured out that the Hard tire is the race tire during the pre-season test. So now everyone has saved all their sets of hard tires. This is unusual.

Both Perez and Verstappen currently running on one of the 2 sets of hard tires.

makes sense, I guess. With their (lack of) deg, Red Bull can easily make a S-S-H strategy work. Same as last year. And Verstappen may even be able to save a new set for the start.

Looks like track limits might be a significant factor during qualifying (maybe even the race). Turn 4 especially! Under Michael Masi, drivers were allowed to go over in that corner, track limits weren’t enforced. Looks like now everyone is trying to get as close to the limit as possible.
