What actually happened in S1? I can see we didn't get the lap we wanted, do we know what the issue was?

They didn't show Lando's fast lap, they were showing Piastri here.
Missed apex T1, wheelspin T1 exit, T3 again missed apex and oversteer on exit.

That's my amateur reading of it.

In the mix, so not too bad. Very tight between the top 5 teams, very exciting prospect for the season. Small mistakes will see you tumble in the standings. Will be intriguing to see how the race pace stacks up tomorrow.

Looked to me like he ran into traffic with a Red Bull leaving the pits into T1. But man, the field is tight, gonna be an exciting season!

yeah apparently cars exiting the pits so bad timing and he got distracted, lost .2 to his best sec1 with that he would have been 3rd

Not a bad start to the season. For first qualification. I'm more pleased than not. The density of results is high. A small mistake can drop a rider into the bottom ten. That makes tomorrow's race all the more interesting.

decent. seem to be well in the mix with Mercedes and Aston, and possibly even Ferrari ... much better pace than most predicted

Yeah, now more than ever Lando must try and keep it together during quali.

Gaps are so small, cant afford "moments" or he may end up 10th.
Called it. Could even see it in the minimap, the exit out of T1-T2 was poor. Dont know if Perez blocked him or not though.

The good news is that the car clearly has pace. The long runs looked better yesterday, so that bodes well for the race.

But this is a track they expected to struggle, yet they are in the mix.

Overall quite positive I would say.

Mate, I was calling it all last year and got a right slating for saying it would be a big deal this year :D

But at this point do we know it was a driver mistake, seems like it may have been traffic?

The first 5 are very close together and the championship is on. The team has to overdevelop the others and give a faster car to both drivers to cover for these mistakes. Today though traffic might have been a factor.

Redbull is far away in race pace there is no fight for the championship only for P2

I wouldnt be so sure considering Perez is a worse than average driver.

They were far away in Qualy also, we need to see tomorrow pan out before we think we understand race pace.

That James Allison prediction of Mercs speed didn't age well.
why don't we calm down and post McLaren relevant posts, hm?
Rus did not look that bad in p3

ontopic,
Car seems good, top3 was doable. One lap pace is right there or close to it.
Let's see what's possible tomorrow and how is the long run pace compared to the competition.

Tough S1 for Lando, Perez did not block him though
