Wonder how pace will be on soft compound compared to yesterday with setup changes. Did we save a brand new set for tomorrow. Since Fernando only had done 1 run in Q1/Q3?
No because he used two sets in Q2. I think of the top 10 only RB have a set of new softs, but they only have a set of hards, the rest have two.
You have 4 sets of softs and a 5th if you make it into Q3.
In Q1 Alo went back out for a 2nd run but never ran a hot lap...In Q2 I'm not sure if the first-run was on the last set of tires from Q1 or a fresh set. If it was a fresh set, it would mean 2 sets of softs used in Q1, 2 in Q2 and 1 in Q3. Total of 5. That would leave a wost case senario that they could start the race on that last set tires from Q1. which they only did and outlap and a inlap on. Best case scenario, the used that last set of tires from Q1 as the first set in Q2 and they'll have a brand new set of tires left over for the race.
I remember skyf1 mentioned that he used old set in Q1 second run and Q2 first run.

I think they said Alonso and RBRs were the only ones on New softs in q2.

Fernando is really excited and grateful. They have given him the surprise of his life right on the same circuit where everything began between AM and himself a year ago.

Mr. Stroll has gained the services of a terrible warrior: Alonso will fight for the honor of AM and that will allow us to see fabulous races, I hope.

This epic style suits Fernando and AM well. Possibly because his challenge is so epic.

Now the important thing is a good start, risking it but not too much... because I imagine that the race pace will be what takes them ahead. It is the only risk I see: that Alonso is overmotivated and overreacts at the start. Let's see if Max joins the journey to first place.

The race looks like it will be really good to watch. The differences in one lap are minimal.

Fernando, you no longer have a wooden sword. Now you have a real one, don't dent it.

Q1 he used 1 set. He went back out on used softs. Q2 he used 2 new sets.

Edit: Just checked the Tyre allocations. Alonso doesn't have a new set of softs.

No. Everybody but Red Bull made it to qualifying with 4 sets of softs. He used 1 in Q2 (second run was on used tyres), 2 in Q2 and 1 in Q3, that's all the softs he had.

Well, a real sword should let him fight for the championship. Maybe the sword is not yet sharp enough for that. But it is certainly much better than expected

Fernando starts from the dirty side of the grid and we have yet to see how the AMR24 launches, so it could be a bit difficult.

stroll needs to be doing better. all the other team have both drivers around fernando so they can split strategies. but looking forward to the race.
hopefully the setup changes will help the tyre deg we saw in fp2

Is 0 zero for alonso meaning unused set of softs?

Yes, we agree :)

The sword is not sharp yet. But he doesn't have to dent it today, he will sharpen it during the season. It seems like a good base to work on and I hope they don't get lost again during development.

Apparently Fernando has said on Spanish TV that Aston's simulations put him on P9 for the race.

Makes sense judging by their long runs in fp2.

Notice how the tire allocation only mention 3softs for a Alonso and a few others and 4 for others? It's wrong I think.

The race pace is so bad; Alonso is dropping behind Lewis like a space rock. Lance is not able to do anything with Yuki & Sauber.
AM needs to work on the race pace ASAP.

Race pace is indeed bad. Maybe Alonso going for 1-stop?
